looking to find age and other info for my model 27
I have a S&W model 27-2, #N207027.
Any info you can provide would be appreciated. It is in 8 3/8" barrel and shoots amazingly.
Especially when it was made?
Any known weaknesses of "don't's" that this model has?
Rough Value?

The serial number dates to about 1974-1975.
The Model 27-2 has absolutely no known flaws and shortcomings. As time passed, S&W only made them more cheaply, not more better.
The best "don't" advice I can give you is, "Don't sell it!"
Before 1975, S&W would ship the Model 27-2 with either Magna or Target stocks and standard or wide (Target) hammers and triggers, usually in their blue (or gray for nickel finish guns) cardboard boxes. In 1975, the factory finally standardized the guns by shipping them all with checkered Goncala Alves Target stocks, Target hammers and triggers and inside the wood presentation cases.
Yes, I'm a fan. My 8-3/8 inch Model 27-2 is nickel finish and was made and shipped a bit later than yours, about 1981.
And welcome to the site.

Thank you for the quick reply. I have owned it for 30+ years. I have no intention of selling it or any other of my firearms. It is the second gun and first pistol I ever bought. Of any gun I own, those 2 and my recently acquired model 70 colt 1911 would be the very last thing I would sell if times got that bad. I am curious as to its value just for gits and shiggles. It is in flawless condition, and ridiculously accurate.

Mine is blued with narrow hammer and trigger. many years ago I installed paqmire grips. I believe I have the original grips put away. But, to be honest I don't know where at this moment. Thank you for the info and for the welcome.

I'm not the best one here to guess values, but of course there are lots of factors that will affect this.
Condition trumps pretty well all else. Originality is worth more than anything swapped out or modded. What else do you still have? People will pay more for the same gun in it's original box with the tools and papers that came with it new. Where do you live? Regionality is a factor. Barrel length is another. When I started shooting in the mid 1970's, among S&W's, the long barrel was the one that was most in demand and carried the highest price. That seems to be reversed now, as a 3-1/2, 4 or 5 inch M-27-2 will sell for a higher price than an 8-3/8 inch, all other things being equal.
I would guess somewhere between $750 to $1,000 with the original grips on it to a private buyer.

I have a S&W model 27-2, #N207027.
Closest date on my list is N2062xx which shipped in 2/75. Yours is probably close.

Thank you. That's close enough for me. As I said, I am not planning to sell it. But it nice to know what you owns value.
