I Value Mine At $2500 (Shown Before)
My no dash Model 60 (after market engraved) has a matching knife and fitted wood presentation case along with elephant ivory grips which I value at $2500. The ivory grips, because they cannot be sold over state lines anymore, actually detracts from the gun, as if I wanted to sell anywhere outside of my home state, I would have to put regular wood grips on it.

Luckily, some parts are not scratched, so it should hold a pretty good value.

Roughly? I'd say $1600-$2000 retail.

The big question is, "Who did the engraving?" If the 'right' person did it you could have hit the jackpot. I like the engraving job done. It is a little excessive for my taste, but I'm not a collector of engraved firearms. I agree with 'Fat Tom's' assessment. ...........

Are you asking about a gun selling in Denmark? That may affect US value estimates.

A guy named Bent Agner Nielsen engraved the gun...

Is the name spelled Bent or Brent? My cousin, whose mom is a war bride, is named Brent.. I've never seen the first name Bent before. Gunar your model 60 is fantastic...
model 39, yours is right fair pretty too... my understanding is that the ivory grips may be given away still.. but not sold. We have an old Colt 1855 2nd model pointing hand, with well preserved factory ivory grips & a knife or two with ivory handles ...

Sorry, it's not mine. Just wondering if I should consider buying it. And its Bent, not Brent.

with regard to protecting the value of a gun; it is acceptable to buff/polish/alter the finish yourself?

How well known is he there? Does he know how to anneal or otherwise deal with any surfaces that he engraves?
The reputation of the engraver can add a lot to value. If someone famous like John E. Warren, Ed. C. Prudhomme, or any of the other engravers shown in Gun Digest's annual issues is involved, they all have reputations that infer full confidence in their techniques and skills. They are famous artists in this medium. Their engraving on a gun or knife adds value. Similar engraving by an unknown artist may actually detract from value, as no one knows if he handled the job correctly with respect to any softening or re-hardening issues. That's just an example; I don't really know if any surface hardnesses are affected.
Ask about him among Danish shooters and collectors and ask any Danish gun magazines. It's unlikely if anyone here can help much. The work does seem very well done, and I suspect that he is well established and respected there.
If there are no Danish gun magazines, see if DWJ is still published. Germans may know of him.

I like it - especially the work on the right side plate! I would love to have some more "up-close" photos, but I would expect it to sell in the range of $1,000 to $2,000 and I would be a buyer at the lower end of that range.
Thanks,

If you're going to get your model 60 engraved in Denmark... get Bent...
