Wanting a 66 P&R 2.5"
What would you guys pay for one in nice condition? I'm on the lookout for one but I see prices between $550-1,000 for what appears to me to be the same thing.
Hopefully one will fall in my lap soon. Would $800 be out of the question for you in great shape?

You should be able to find a 2.5 inch -1 for $800 or less; two sold recently on GB for that price or less. I don't see the -1s very often, especially the 2.5 inch, so it might take awhile to find one. There are more -2s, at least I see them more often. I bought a nice used one last year for $475 and another the year before for $500. Don't see those prices too often anymore but you should be able to find one for somewhere between $500 and $800. Nice gun, you'll like it a lot when you do find one. Good luck.

I paid $550 last year for a nickel 19-3 (P&R) with box knowing that it needed some work on its timing (it turned out great). I paid $650 last month for a 66-5 pre-lock, frame-mounted firing pin, not pinned and recessed, no box. In that context $800 would be ballpark -- I'd hate myself, but I'd pay that in a minute if the gun was sitting in front of me at a LGS.

The Model 66 pre-lock will continue to appreciate. $800 today for one in great shape hurts but you will not lose money if you ever decide to sell it. The round butt 2.5 inch is a shooter! Good luck.

You and me both my friend. I have 3 other 66's (one no dash and two -1's) but a nice 2.5" snubby no dash or dash 1 has eluded me for a while now...good luck to you.

Pinned and recessed model 66's were made for 10 years, as compared to the model 19 which was offered pinned and recessed for 35ish years.
There are just not as many of them, and they are sought after now.
If you find one for $800 or less I even understand snag it immediately.

I have been offered $800+ for my 66-1, 2 1/2" (no box, tools or papers) a couple of times at my range. I didn't pay anywhere near that when I bought it a couple of years ago but I really like the gun and it's not easy to replace. It is a great revolver!

Model 66 P&R
One of my all time favorites. Plenty of S&W revolvers in the safe, but that 66 2.5 inch will be one of the last to go if I ever thin the herd. This gun just points and handles so naturally that you can't help but like it! I have the Model 19 P&R in 2.5, as well - both are well worth the hunt!

I see a few down here in SoFL at shows. Anywhere between $600-$1000.
I carry a 19-2 , old blue, 2 1/2. Does everything I want it to.
I guess I just dont have the crave for SS. Im sure they will appreciate in NIB condition. If you like it, buy it. There is a whole new wave of S&W fans entering the field. Best.

I guess I feel fortunate to possess a 66 ND 2.5". I have a line on another pre lock 66 2.5" but I am not sure what variant it is. I should find out in the next week or so. I actually like the 2.5"'s looks better than the 3" which is contrary to what others feel here. It seems to be perfectly balanced.

Here's my track on the 66 snubbie:
Smith & Wesson 66-5 2-1/2 inch barrel. Revolver in .357 Mag. Blue Book of Gun Values (36th Edition) indicates between $578 in 95% condition and $N/A in 100% condition for this gun. I have 99 recorded prices for this model gun from $423 to $1095 over a period of 4 Yrs 9 Mos ending September 2, 2016. The average price as of that date was $701. No refurbs, no refinishes, regular sights. All represented as 95% or better. No distinction for engineering revision, if any, no special editions, no distinctions for box, papers, tools. Current or last MSRP is $614.
The last 10 prices I have for this model since 12/22/2015 range from $625 to $875 averaging $710

Model 66 2 1/2inch
Three years ago I bought a 66-1 2 1/2 for close to $800.00. Did I pay too much, probably. Did I get what I wanted, damn right. I have not seen once since. These are getting harder and harder to find. In my area Smiths are next to impossible to come by. If you want to go with an auction site (which I have) you take your chances. If you can handel it, rub on it, fondle it and you don't have to let your kids go hungry buy it.

In my world a P&R 66 2.5" without the box and goodies will set you back $750-$1050. This is based on LGS and gun shows from Nevada to Tennessee. Good luck with your quest. My 66-1 2.5" will be buried with me.
FWIW, I paid $750 for it in 2014, and all it came with was a set of Eagle SS grips. The store owner was wearing it as his EDC when I bought it. Damn near dislocated my shoulder trying get my wallet out of my pants.
