aftermarket grip suggestion for a model 14
So I picked up a TTT shooter grade 14. I'd like to put some aftermarket grips on it to make a bit more ergonomic. I've got a couple Tyler T's on some of my other collectible K frames and that helps a bit, but I'd like something even better. This is for informal plinking--not trying to win anything at a formal match.
Here's my criteria:
Will fit a small to medium/short fingered hand but not stubby (no jokes! It's not true!)
Interested in form follows function on these--I'd stop short of f-ugly rubber/rubber compound grips, but I don't need exotic woods either.
Hopefully in the $100 range at most. I've spent plenty/too much on std pistol and 10M air pistol grips!
Suggestions?
Thanks

Check out Ahrends Tactical Revolver grips. Great fit and finish, available in a variety of woods.
Altamont also makes very good S&W grips with laser cut checkering. The finger groove target grips work great on K frame revolvers.
Either choice will fit an average hand much better than S&W factory target stocks.

It's a target revolver, why not real target stocks? These are from Herrett...
Adios,

You can pick up a lot of Target grips for under $100. Bullseye
shooting with revolvers is a dying sport. I have small hands and
find the old Herrit targets very comfortable. I have the on K22s
and K38s. Last pair I bought was here on Forum, $40.

For target grips, just buy some used ones off eBay. I have no prejudice against Hogue or Pachmayr rubber grips, and in fact greatly prefer them for shooting. Hogues would be better for smaller hands. Then there are the Thai wood grips to be found on eBay. I bought two pairs, really like them (Jaruwan). Any would be well under $100, especially Hogues.

+1 on the hogue. I have smaller hands as well and the hogue finger groove wood grips fit like they were made for me.

I do have several revolvers wearing vintage Herrett's Shooting Star grips scored from eBay. Great deals for under $50. The Sile brand from Italy are not nearly as nice.

Me too on the Herretts. They work for me. I have a set on my 586 no dash, and a set on my 28 no dash. Sold a Colt set. Have 1 modified set left. (set that was on 67 no dash) Bob

Herrett will still make them to fit your particular hand. Contact them about sending in a tracing of your hand.

I would suggest, from experience, that you take a look at the Hogue Monogrip. I have a wooden one on my 1957 4 screw, which makes it very controllable.

Ahrends Retro Combats or Targets.
Kim Ahrend knows how they should fit us guys that can't palm a basketball.
I ordered two sets , unfinished , so I could cut them down to fit my hands , This is what I have to do with every factory grip.
Out the box was a perfect fit , A set for N frame M 58 and K frame M 64, both fit perfectly , nothing was done except a tung oil finish....I love them both !
If you have smaller mitts.....try Ahrends .
Both of mine were Retro Combats , the M58 is my avatar.
Very reasonable cost to boot !

Thanks for all your help everyone! Slim pickings on Ebay right now but I'll keep my eyes peeled. I think some Hogue rubber should be in inventory regardless as they really are functional.

Another vote for Herrett's Shooting Stars. Check GB. These can often be found at very reasonable prices.

I really like Ahrends. I am using three sets right now. My hands are medium in size and these grips all fit me perfectly.
1. Md 681 square butt with Tacticals and no finger grooves.
2. Md 686 round butt with 2.5 inch barrel with Retro Combats with finger grooves.
3. Md 64 round butt with 2.5 inch barrel with Retro Bananas and no finger grooves.
For your Md 14, I'd probably be in the market for Ahrends Retro Targets or Tacticals. Good luck with your decision.

The Ahrends stocks are real nice. I took these off and replaced them with period original S&W targets. Big Larry

Try these;
CUSTOM S&W K&L GRIP | Brownells
Unfortunately they appear to be out of stock right now.
I too have short, fat fingers, and these are the grips I have on my Mod 14. They work great for my "old style bullseye shooting".
