Model 15-2 Hoping For A Birth Year.
Picked this one up today for $350 (one of the rare occasions I didn't negotiate) . The pictures don't do it justice a little wear at the muzzle and a few minor scratches. The grips that were on it were some Victory ones carved to look like jigged bone. I had the ones in the picture put back for something special. I am hoping this is my birth year and even month. The serial number is K720435 SCSW puts it being made in 1967 but I know ship dates can be off. The man I got it from is a former LEO

Very nice gun. You will really enjoy shooting it. Your story sounds much like mine. A Model 15-2 bought from a former lawman. The only difference is mine has a 2" barrel and I put a vintage set of targets on it.

I've seen a K673xxx shipping in May 1966, a K733xxx in May 1967, and K744xxx shipping in June 1967.
You'll still need a letter to be certain, but extrapolating from those would put your K720435 pretty safely into the first half of 1967. If I wanted to document a birth-year gun, I'd like my odds on this one and letter it .

Absalom thanks my birthday is February 17 1967 so I am hopeful on this one. I only wish I looked as good as this Smith does after almost 50 years LOL.

The Herrett Shooting Stars are nice and look good on an older K Frame. They're readily available and fairly reasonably priced.

My philosophy is if the gun is a very good value at the asking price and the price doesn't cause me any consternation, I pay full price...I negotiate plenty of times, but sometimes it's ok to let the other guy get his number.

Robert that is my philosophy too and also it helps you get calls on guns before someone list them giving you first shot.
