You got me!
I'm not a True S&W Fan!
Just an old revolver guy trying to hold on to the past!

If you are starting out with those three, and one is a Mod-52, you are a confirmed S&W Fan. They are all beauties. Good start. Best.

I have quite a few S&Ws, but none on your list. They look like very nice guns.

I would vote for M19, M27, and M29 as essentials.

Just got a call from my FFL Phil Bozza - my 640 just arrived.
He called it a 'boat anchor.'
But he's a 1911 guy.

I'm not with ya, but I got a bunch more than you are showing. None of which have an internal lock. Perhaps I qualify as a S&W guy. Ya tell me.

Ah, darn, I don't have a model 52 or a model 547

I do have a model 53. Oh and a 500, some 45s, some 44 mags, 44 specials, a 44 Russian, a 41 mag, some 357s, some 38s, some 32s and several 22s. From top breaks, premodels, no dashes to dashes, scandium, stainless, blued. X frames, N frames, L frames, K frame, J frames and I frames. Stockers to heavily modified. No S&W semi autos

I am not looking for a 52 or a 547. Think I got my bases covered though. Guess I could find a 32-20, 9mm and 10mm revolver. But, I think I am about through gathering.

steelslaver, my circle also is now closed. Anything from here on is duplication. Nothing wrong with duplications, just that my "Gotta Haves" are inside the Gates.

...I have a model 53... but, neither of the others. I was thinking it's hard to be a "True S&W Fan" without:

1) a 357 Magnum (i.e. Registered Magnum, Non-RM, Model 27, 27, 19),

2) a K-22 Long Rifle version (Outdoorsman, Masterpiece, Model 17, 18),

3) a 44 Magnum (Model 29, 629),

4) some version of the K-Frame Military and Police (1905, Victory Model, Model 10 etc...).

But then, I'm probably showing my bias just a bit...

For sure the OP is all alone. While I consider a .44 Magnum a waste of time that is quite personal to me. MANY MANY S&W aficionados require a M29 or M629 in their starter pack.

But, hey, I might be a S&W aficionado with this list or, as I think Col. Crittenden calls it, an aficionado in training:

M 32
M 649
M 642
M 10 (at least eight of those in various configurations)
M 12
M 15
M 19 (2.5" and 4" and a 2" on the way)
M 27 Classic
M 25 (.45 Colt beats .44 Magnum all day every day in my book)
M 64 (2 of those)
M 65 (coming soon)
.38-44 HD
M 586
M 686+ (3 variations)

I know. I need to get a life.....

And, hey, one of those new fangled .22 revolvers is headed my way, too.

Do automatic pistols count?

Pre War K .22 Outdoorsman Model 2

Also, Roper grips on everything!

Every S&W collector needs a model 10 or 15.

I don't own any of the three in the original post. I once had a model 52, but a guy at my range offered me a stupid amount of money for it, and I sold it on the spot. It is arguably the finest semi-auto ever made by S&W, but I considered it a single purpose gun for serious bullseye shooters, which I am not, and I moved on. The three guns are very nice, but they wouldn't be the first three on my list. I honestly don't know where I would start now if I began collecting today because I've never been good at picking my favorite child. Based on the premise of this thread, there are no wrong answers.

For those of us without the deepest of pockets
I would vote for Model 19
Model 27 or 28
and a Model 29
all true icons that are still somewhat affordable.

Can a "wannabe true fan" play?

Here's my little selection of S&W shooters.

4th Model "Pocket Pistol" in .32 S&W
Model 34-1 "Kit Gun" in .22LR
Model 19-3 "Combat Magnum" in .357 Mag
Model 625-9 "Mountain Gun" in .45 Colt

Interesting selection you have there Tmnguuyen. That one in the middle doesn't have a cylinder. Where do you put the bullets?

God bless,
Birdgun

Bazinga! Did I win!?!?! All are lettered. The TL is 1912, RM is from 1939 and the 44 magnum is from April 1956.

Am I a true collector? I don't have the guns in the OP's post though

Is there a support group for those of us who don't buy guns that new (typically)?

I'm out.

Once had a friend whose nickname was No Neck (it was an honest assessment of the gentleman). That's the way I like my revolver cartridges, too.

If it doesn't have a wheel it doesn't count.

There are thousands more true S&W fans than there are 547s.

I can appreciate many of the offered "lists," but mines a wee bit less complicated:

- Centennial pre-Model 40. It's my Grail gun since I just filled the baby chiefs void.

- Chiefs special. I would have said a baby chiefs, but I'm quite sure there aren't enough of them to go around either.

- M&P .38 Special.

Cheers,

Bob

The only other S&W I really want is a 4 inch .38-.44 Heavy Duty. It doesn't have to be LNIB; it just doesn't have to look like it was dragged behind a truck on a gravel road.

How can one possibly, ever, be a "true" S & W Fan when using pens, pencils, shotguns shells, tools, handles, fingers, etc. as prop rods when the Forum teaches you right from the beginning: rule # 1: no pic..it didn't happen, OK the OP gets a pass on rule 1, how about rule 2: True S & W fans will only use genuine S & W approved and logoed prop rods when displaying treasures on the forum, and it is no fair using a prancing pony prop rod on any S & W gun (actually I have heard that use of "Colt" prop rods transfer a bacterial virus to your S & W gun that can never be erased..so watch out).

Hey steelslaver, I have the 52 & 547. We pull in your 53 with mine and maybe we can get a special rulling that qualifies both of us with one set!

Well, I guess I am not a true fan since I don't have any on your list! I agree with blackdeuce's selections and/or their variants. I would also add a K22/M17.

The most basic of Smith collections have to include:
A j frame
A k frame
And an N frame.

Also, a .22lr
A .38 special
And a .357 magnum.

No collection is complete without a m36
M17
Or a m27.

So... wallah

I have none of the OP's list, but I have thoroughly enjoyed this thread. Thanks all.

Kind of a collection of S&W conundrums,
A Model 547 which is basicly a .38 M&P in 9mm , Then its polar opposite a Model 52 which is basicly a target version of the 9mm Model 39 chambered in .38 wadcutter,

The oddest of the bunch is the 53 which is basically a factory Wildcat pushing .22 cal bullets from a .357 case with an optional ..22lr rimfire replacement cylinder or bore inserts.

Neat guns but not mainstream S&W handguns as much as oddballs for nonconformists.

Heck, I forgot that I have a 4th Model pocket pistol in .38 S&W.

I have parted ways with a 3" Model 629 (sold to a friend), a 2" Model 15 in nickel that was stolen, a 638 that was stolen, and a 4" Model 19 that I literally blew to pieces. LOOOONG story for another time, although I probably told it here at least once or twice already.

If you insist on adding pistols then a 6906, CS-45, and 5903 SSV (unfired/NIB). I'm thinking about carrying that .45 again; I always liked it.

Someone insisted on pictures:

That .38-44 HD is from 1932 for those of you who have a hankering for a pre-war .38-44. It's not for sale, not yet, anyway, and it plus one or the M10s and the 2.5" Model 19 are the guns that brought me to this Forum at the behest of my LGS.

I collect many other makes and types of guns but My S&W collection is missing some of the OPs choices but I have plenty of other models to choose from. As a sad side note I also like Colts.
