***UPDATE*** There are still some "sleepers" out there...
A small LGS/pawn has had these for sale for a few months now. They both obviously spent their lives in a safe etc and consequently have little appeal to me. But,
I thought y'all might like to see them:
The 10-5 is a "D" series and the 36 (no dash) dates to '69 or '70. I have no affiliation w/ the seller.
Best,
Charles

They both look nice.
In my neighborhood I'd offer them $700 for the pair.

As far as I’m concerned, that model 36 is about $100 overpriced. The 10-5 I would say is at the extreme high end of the market so it’s no wonder that they have been there a while.

Given the condition as you describe it and as far as the photo shows, the guy should put them on a national auction site, where they would sell quickly at those prices, especially if presented with some well-taken photos. That the 10-5 is still around must be a local market oddity; it's underpriced and likely wouldn't last a day on Gunbroker at a $339 minimum bid.

Yeah, I like those. Much harder to find in Nickel. They are both significantly underpriced; but, the market is so soft right now, nice old Smiths are harder to move. If they are as nice as they look, a year ago $1100 would have been the fair price to get them out the door fast.

My goodness, if nothing else snatch both up flip them quickly for a nice profit, or better yet put them aside for trading stock or later sale.

Offer him $700 OTD for both, with the newly re-found interest in revolvers, and the current internal lock hatred by some folks, I think you may strike gold. They won't ever be worth less than $700, and to the right buyer, much more.

Too bad there is not a 2", SB, Model 10-5 in that picture. I would be begging for the contact info. So, Charles did you buy either one or both? Inquiring minds want to know........... hardcase60

I won a Factory Nickel 10-5 this past August for $222.00. The grips show wear but are serial numbered to the revolver. It is also D serial numbered.

s w mod 10-5 sb d sn
Hello fellow S &W members.I am curious of the D sn on the s w mod10-5 SB .I picked one up last year at my local gun/pawn store. It is becoming my most carried and shot 38. The sn on the bottom of frame starts with a 2 then D then 5 more numbers. 2D75785 to be exact.Would this make it a D sn that is mentioned in a post by hardcase60 and what is the relevance or makes it desirable. Is there a difference in the SB vs RB that makes it more or less desirable or is that just personal preference. I will be searching this online but learning something new everyday on this great site and great stories. I usually have my 65-3 3in in my range bag everyday and sometimes carry a 66-1 2.5 in and don't carry my 19-3 2.5 inch as much. This 10-5 is a great piece. Thanks for any info in advance.

Your revolver would be from late in 1977. (2D00001 - 2D80000)
Mine with a serial number starting with a D is from the 1976 timeframe. (D870001 - D999999)
There were no 1D's in the Model 10.

In the San Diego area, not unusual for older established dealers to have phone relationships with 'preferred customers'. These would be quite good prices here and likely neither gun to last a day unsold in such shops or much longer in open displays!
My take

No sir. I won't be taking either of these home. Too pristine for me.
In fact, the shop owner and I have a running joke about me taking the 10-5. I'll go in and get something else and tell him "that one's next!"
Best,
Charles

As I've written before I am no expert but I have stayed at a Holiday Inn Express.
The most discussed difference between RB and SB is concealment while carrying. A RB being more easy to conceal than a SB. In monetary terms the same model short barrel RB revolvers will most likely bring a higher price than a SB with all other features being equal. As with anything S&W their are exceptions.
The remainder of the differences is more personal preference. To boil it down even further, some folks have a preference on a particular type of stocks on a RB and a different style on the same model in a SB. Sometimes just the visual difference of a RB vs. SB of a model has more appeal with absolutely nothing to do with function.
My measly accumulation of orphaned S&W revolvers is a mix of 2", 2.5", 3" and 4" with an equally eclectic mix of RB's and SB's. Hopefully the experts will be along shortly. hardcase60

Well, strictly speaking ...
The 1D prefixes were used on the Model 64 and 65 stainless versions from 1976 to 1980.

^^^^ Agree, I added the statement in case it raised a question on the part of combat66 as to Model 10's.

I saw a nice stainless Charter Arms .38 spl. DAO in a pawn shop today for $ 225. I would have bought it, but I like hammers on my revolvers.

Don't you love autocorrect?
I'd say the new Glock owner got an upgrade in round count but not much else. Enjoy!
