Default 24-3

Has anyone measured the cylinder throats of their 24-3's . I don't have pin gauges handy but from the size from bullets seems around .432. I know I can use softer bullets or sized larger, just curious what throats others have. Just starting to work up loads. Thanks

.432" bullets work best in mine, but .431" will do. I use approximately WW alloy and moderate loads.

Where do you find .432 lead bullets? I have a 29-2 that needs some. .430 jacketed is good but .430 lead opens up.

I cast mine, but had to have Lyman and SAECO moulds opened up through machining to get them that big. I don't know whether commercial casters offer .432", but it's worth looking.

I have been using .431 jacketed from Zero/Roze distribution with good results. my 24-3 has large throats, .430 cast fall right through.

I've had four of these guns, still have three and they have .432" throats. I bought the first one new in October, 1983, but all the guns are mid-production models.

Whether S&W maintained the .432" throats throughout the entire run, I don't know.
