Default looking for info on my 29-2

I inherited a 44 mag from my uncle who
Past away last year. He was a deputy in
Alpine,TX years ago and it was the side
Arm he carried. it's a blued 29-2 with a 3 inch
Barrel. serial # N70302. I would just like about
What year it was made. Any info is greatly appreciated.

My guess is about 1971 or so....early 70s anyway.

Sorry to hear about your uncle, your gun was made between 1972-74, (N60001- N190000), based on the low serial number safe to assume a 1972 DOM. Your gun also sports a 4inch barrel, measure thru the frame where barrel meets cylinder. Since this is a heirloom, you may consider lettering it through Roy Jinks, S&W historian if you plan to keep it and pass it down the family tree. The letter will give you the date of manufacture and to which distributor delivered, I believe the fee 75.00, you can google S&W historical society for more info. Hope that helps

Nice 4" Model 29-2, Original stocks would have been football relieved checkered target stocks made of Goncalo Alves.

If you havent already you should remove the rubber Pachmayers and clean n oil underneath as rubber tends to trap moisture and promote rust.

Model 29-2, N71565, shipped in March 1973. Yours probably shipped around the same time (give or take a couple of months).
