Default Combat Masterpiece

For a couple years I've been looking for a "high condition" 15-1 to fill a slot in my K38/15 collection. Finally took delivery of this. It's the best example of a 15-1 (except for a NIB example) I've seen.Thought I'd post this photo to encourage some comments and photos from other Combat Masterpiece owners on the forum

Glad that you were able to scratch that itch. That sure is a nice looking model 15. Happy holidays.

It is a masterpiece. Here is a photo of mine. A model 67 with a bead
blasted satin finish. The stocks are Spegel designed Uncle Mikes. I
like the looks of the black stocks with silver (color) gun better than the
wood.

Now that's a fine looking Model 15.

As I say all the time, I go back and forth between the Model 15 and the Model 19 as to which I like best. Since this is about the Model 15, I like that one best.

I've got a 15-2, with TH, TT, and diamond target stocks. It's got a bit more wear than yours, but is a good shooter.

Default Combat Masterpiece

Here is a K38 and a 15 showing the "dull" blue finish of the pre-15 and the "bright" blue from 1957 on

I have a 67-1 and IMO there was never a revolver made with a finer balance than that of a 4 inch tapered barrel S&W 38 special.

Here is my 15-3. I bought it off of a guy from Colorado thinning out his collection. I told him I'd take good care of it. Really nice to shoot. My dad was jealous when I showed it to him.

OP, very nice M15. Congrats. I found this pre 15 at a local shop and couldn't resist. Great shooter. Dates to 1949.

Packed a 4 inch for 12 years, loved it, competed with a 6" for 10 years, achieved my Life Time Masters card with it.

Pics of a couple of my Combat Masterpiece revolvers. I own some others, but not a dash one, sadly.

A dash 2 I was given by my late father:

A special order CM, made for the Missouri State Highway Patrol in 1952. It has the unusual 5" barrel:

I recently had to make a choice between a M19 2-1/2" and a 4" M15, both in great condition.
I opted for the M19, but the M15 is still available. Don't 'need it', just want it thanks to this thread.

S&Ws are like potato chips - one leads to another and another and another ..... which is why I don't eat them. Peanuts, that's another story.

My 15-2. It's been refinished several times, and I added the front sight insert and changed to a W/O rear sight blade.

Nice revolver. Just FYI, that is a 2" barrel (nominal). The Model 15 line snub got the standard K frame 2" barrel. Only the Combat Magnum (Model 19) line got the extra half inch. That was to improve extraction on the longer .357 Magnum case.

I don't know what itis about the 15's, but they are special--so say a lot of revolver guys, me included.

The sweetest handgun I have over owned or shot was a 15-3 I bought unfired from an estate consignment. Absolutely amazing trigger, and lovely balance.

My son and his boys have it now. Couldn't see making them wait till I die, and it's given the three boys an appreciation of fine revolvers.

Thanks, I caught that mistake this morning and scanned down to see who else actually read my post and didn't just drool on the photos.

I had 2 1/2" on the brain because of this stable mate to the 15...

Here's one from 1970. Picked it up a few months ago. For some reason these are hard to find around here. The bluing is outstanding. Especially on the top strap which looks as nice as a M27. . .if it only had the checkered top strap. It's a 15-3.

My Grandpa was a wise man, for only having a sixth grade education. He always said, "give with a warm hand." Clearly, you are a good and wise man too.

I understand the quest for pristine, LNIB examples of the gunmakers art. But the one pictured below holds far more appeal to me. If it could only talk...

No need to be sorry. Your 67 and my 67 are the same Combat
Masterpiece as the Model 15 except in stainless steel.

P. S. Mine is also a no dash.

I got lucky I found a pre 15 model which is a k38 combat masterpiece w/4" barrel discounted because of very little freckling. The freckling turned out to be dried oil. The gun is 99.99% condition. The same dealer had a pre 14 k38 target masterpiece 6" barrel again dried oil. The same 99.99% condition. I got lucky. I purchased these after I found out how awesome my first S&W k22 is quality wise. Then watching the tales of the gun S&W on the history channel. I'm impressed. The actions on these three S&W were build by the old world S&W craftsman. They are so smooth.

OK, I guess I need to put my 2 cents worth in as I have a beautiful, mint, unfired, boxed with tools, Combat Masterpiece, shipped 11-05-53. It has a target hammer and non relieved walnut target stocks, both lettered to the gun. Box is as well. Big Larry

Beautiful !! Store the box and tools, and throw the gun in the glove compartment of your truck. Just kidding!

I have this revolver in a good gun rug and the box in the closet. Over the years, even mint guns get beat up in their cardboard boxes. This revolver has no turn ring or any marks whatsoever on it. Nicest S&W I own. I have an Outdoorsman K22 that is close. Thanks, Big Larry

I had a 15-3 back in the early 70s and sold it to an Army buddy. Most of you know the feeling of regret I've felt for over 40+ years. Now, I'm thinking of solving that regret with another Combat Masterpiece. Been looking at one. Struggling. No logical reason to get it. Sweet gun though.....

God bless,
Birdgun

The Combat Masterpiece / Model 15 was my agency's issue revolver until we switched to semiautos in 1991. Deputies didn't get the option of buying their old gun, and it's funny that I want it now when I never had any attachment to it or carried it back then.

Serial number was K522975, with " SL Co SO #72 " on the left side of the frame by the thumb piece.

Ut-oh!! I just scratched that itch. Bought a 15-4 off of GunBroker. Now looking forward to taking possession of my Combat Masterpiece and getting to the range with it!

I'll post photos of the ol' gal in due time.

God bless,
Birdgun

Well look what I brought home today for 4 C notes. I just took possession of this beautiful little gal; Model 15-4 (mfr 1980) with TH and TT. She came with her original box, all papers, no tools. I am hard pressed not to believe she isn't a brand new gun. With the exception of two light dings on the right grip panel, I can't find a blemish on her. No loss of blueing anywhere. I doubt this sweetie has ever seen a holster. My wife has really taken a liking to her and she wants this "Combat Masterpiece" to be her night stand gun. We are taking her to the range on Monday to see how she performs. I name my special guns and I'm going to call this sweet little lady, "Polly."

Isn't Polly a beauty?

God bless,
Birdgun

My 15 no dash with later targets. The 1st Smith I ever bought and the one I'll die with in my hand.

Really nice. The 15 no dash is a tough one to find; especially in nice shape

Thanks. It's got a healthy turn line, and a little muzzle wear. Best shooting handgun I've ever shot.
