27-2 4"
Ok ok. I get excited and make mistakes when it comes to buying Smiths. I usually over pay. I threw a bid in on this shooter grade 27-2 4" Christmas eve. I won and sat there thinking did I just screw up? Then I remebered who I am and realized that the answer was most likely yes! But hey I like it ! I needed a N frame 357 shooter! $ 650.00 was the total! I realize I over paid but I like the revolver. I can't wait to disturb the peace around here when it goes boom! This picture is the good side!

I fail to see the problem... Maybe more pictures would convince me. $650.00 is a figure I hear all the time with the buying and selling of desirable S&W's. I keep hearing about ridiculously low prices and falling values but I ain't seeing it where I'm buying.

Nice pistol.
4 in. is a good length for a barrel.
.357M is the best pistol cartridge in the world.
$650. is not much money especially if you are rich.
I think you did super good.

Great snag. This seems to be 27-2 month for a few of us. I'm curious to see the "bad" side too. The good side looks pretty sharp from over here...

You asked for it. There are bluing issues around the shroud.

Looks like whatever got the ejector shroud got the grips too. Is it beyond using Flitz?

If that's a -2, shouldn't it have a pinned barrel, or is that a "transition" thing?

It should be pinned, but it might be a left over frame from 81 that was already stamped...

Looks to be a "transition gun"..... not unusual for them to show up around the time S&W was going from the -2's to the -3's and using up all the remaining frames and barrels.
BTW to the OP...IMO it is a good buy for $650. Congrats.

The 4" 27s were only made from about 1980 to 92 it replaced the 3 1/2 and 5 inch guns which were dropped in 1980 (dates approximate)
I got a nice shooter grade 4" 27-2 recessed, but not pinned, this past fall......$600...... about $640 OTD.....I was happy

Nothing wrong with that deal. Wipe it down with a little oil, touch up the grips and fire away. You won't second guess for very long. Enjoy.

In my neck of the woods, that's a very good buy. And you will not think of the price again, when you take it out and shoot it.

I just bought a 4" 27-3 for... more than that.
I tell myself the extra covers the extra 357-44 B&D cylinder that came with it, but living in the formerly Great State of California, prices are goofy.
Congratulations to you on a great revolver.
I've been looking for years for a 4", they aren't easy to find.

This one lacks the pin, but the cylinder appears to have counter-bored charge holes. So it does fall into the transition between the -2 and -3; one feature but not the other. These do show up occasionally.

Seen worse, with a higher asking price. As long as it shoots well you did good.
