Default 29-2 Presentation case

I bought a 29-2 back in 2010 and bought a presentation case off e-bay a couple of years latter.

After doing some searching on this forum I think I may have got lucky and bought the correct case for my gun N145752 that shipped on November 19 1974.

The outside of the case is in very good shape except a small hole right above the latch.

The interior needs re-flocking like most cases.

My question is this correct case for a 1974 29-2, and I have a bag with a sight tool and mop and bore brush, is it correct also?

I need to contact Joe Cebull about the case redone.

Thanks, Phil

I believe the one you are looking for had a plastic liner with the impression of the gun and a tray with a lid for the tools.

I wish I could be of help, but will watch closely to the advice given. I have owned several 29-2s (still have a few) and the cases have minor differences. For instance, some have two brass retaining clamps and others have one. Some point right, some left. I guess what I am saying is, I am confused to.

I wonder if the barrel length is an arbiter of the different styles.

Your case is correct for your 29-2 as are the accessories you have. All you need is the case liners restored by Joe.

Yes, the box for my nickel 29-2 has the revolver pointing to the right. And there's just once recess for the tools and the recess has a cover with a round metal pull stud. And the blue has disintegrated.

My 29-2 from 12/23/1976 is the same as the above case, except that mine came with the correct brush attached to the rod. under the blue on mine is black plastic. I got super lucky,
mine also still had the two yellow plastic tabs and when I pulled them both up all the original paperwork from S&W was there. I'd rather be lucky then handsome!! you have a nice piece there, Enjoy it.

Have had my 29-2 since new, has same case as above with the blue lining that does not rot away. Have a 25-2 45 acp that has the foam lining that rotted away and is relined with blue fleece.

OP, I am original owner of the same case as yours.

Styrofoam bottom, and foam upper, went bye-bye as the years passed. It went to Joe years ago, see photos.

I could be mistaken, but I believe only the cases for the 8 3/8" guns had two latches.

If you want to know the history an evolution of presentation cases for the 44 Magnum, go to my Expert Commentary: Presentation Cases 44 Magnum 1956 and Presentation Cases 44 Magnum 1957-1985. These commentaries should tell you everything you need to know about presentation cases.

Default -2 N frame guns

To all those following this thread! First, read Doc's commentary on the cases! Second, the -2 model N frames could have come with any one of the 4 different types of interior liners of the Mahogany cases. To determine the correct case for your gun use the serial number to determine when the gun was shipped then look at the dates of the different types of liners!
