What grips for N frame
I'm in the process of buying a 28-2 with non original grips. Could someone advise what would have been on ser. S287XXX ? Also would like a guess on the price of a nice set. Thanks

The S&W book shows that yours dates to around 1967. It probably had diamond magnas as 824tsv noted. The book says that the diamond grip was discontinued in 1968, but I think those dates are estimates.

You're not reading the book correctly. I believe Target Stocks were always one of the few options available for this model.
The S&W HP ad below is not dated, but you can see the diamonds on the stocks. That feature was deleted circa 1968.

Possibly it came with Diamond Target stocks as my 6" did, although it was an option A whopping $5 more in 1962 when mine was made. Page from 1962 catalog.

Get a set of Kuracs for it, they are worth the money.

The book shows target trigger, target hammer, and target stocks in 1975. Apparently, the target stocks were available prior to that.
Heck, for all I know that isn't correct, either. LOL.

I think the HP/M28 always had a "semi-target hammer". I imagine that if you really wanted a target hammer and target trigger, you could get an accommodating dealer to install them if S&W wouldn't do so for you at the factory. If you go back far enough, S&W was pretty accommodating.
As SAEMetric says, you would have to spend a whole five bucks extra to upgrade to the target stocks.
