Default 29-10 problem

Hey all,

I bought a 29-10 on Jan 3, brand new. I took it out today and shot it off a rest with 2 magnum loads and a 44 special load and found that the gun shoots 16" to the left. It grouped pretty well 1.5" and elevation was right on with a quick dial in... I tried to fix the shooting left problem, and the rear sight wouldn't go far enough right to get it on target at 15yds. I looked at the barrel and it looked like the front sight (and barrel) were twisted to the right as I sighted down the barrel. I shot it off a rest, and even had someone else at the range shoot it to confirm.

I'm thinking about sending it back to the mothership to have the barrel reclocked. Any experiences with this from other forum members? How is customer service? Will they discount this as my fault and send the gun back, or will they take a look at it? Thanks!

I can't see how they could say it's you fault and have never heard that happening in the way to many complaints of miss clocked barrels

I had good results having a similar but less severe canted barrel fixed on a new gun. Although I don't like that they ship imperfect guns, I was very pleased with the warranty service S&W provided.
