Default Rear sight on model 36??

Hello, just wondering if it is possible to install a rear sight on a model 36. I am thinking about getting a 3" 36, but would sure like a rear sight. In looking at the groove in the top that is the rear sight channel, it looks like one could do this. Help/suggestions appreciated. Thanks, Keener

Yes, it can be done, but IMHO the results are expensive, not as effective as full factory sights with matching notch and post, and offend my esthetics. I have one J frame with factory adjustable sights, a Model 60 3", and I like it very much. I frequently carry a stock 442.

I'm an "offender" myself when it comes to modifying guns. I had an adjustable sight installed on a 3" 36 back in the early 1980s. Looked great (I thought), like a mini Model 15, but I seldom shot or carried it and traded it away. There was no problem back then finding a J-frame adjustable sight, but they're much more scarce now. Have you looked for one of the more recent models that come with adjustables? For instance, a LGS here had a 60-10 that I snapped up for $500 a year or so ago. I'm not sure of the availability where you are, but that would be a lot easier than finding a gunsmith with enough experience to make that sort of an installation. Good luck!
