Need to make a quick decision on a 28-2

Try to figure out quickly what to do on a 28-2 6 inch. I have a 28 no dash 6 inch and a 28-2 4 inch. But the one I can buy is in nicer shape than both of mine. Don't really need it but can get it for 550.00 total. Hardy any wear at all on it, just a very little at end of barrel. I have not purchased or reasearched these in a long time. I heard that lately prices have gone up on these. Are n frames like these going up.

Depends on what part of the country you're in, here in CA it is a bargain for $550. A 4" goes up some....

Can't go wrong with a HP. Original grips?

I live in pa, no not original grips but since this one is nicer than mine I could put my grips on it.

I took a quick glance on GB and everything is in the $700 so I would say $550 is a buy.

I recently gave $500 for a 28-2 which I did a couple of hours of work on cleaning to bring up to a 90-95% gun. It had tired wood grips on it. Your description really could use pictures and not mentioning the grip issue in your original post doesn't help in getting accurate value estimates. That said, While $550 may not be a steal, it's certainly not unreasonably high assuming your metal description is accurate. It would certainly bring that in my neighborhood and it doesn't sound like you will be paying shipping or tax which are two other factors.

Hard to imagine finding one for less, except if a basket case. 28's, IMHO, used to be the most undervalued, under-appreciated S&W. No more.

If you already have a 6" no dash that is shooter grade, why do you need a 28-2, 6" that is also shooter grade? Only my opinion. I have Smiths & others that I don't need, so I shouldn't talk. I would try to find a 27 myself. Do have a 1960 28 no dash though. Let us know how you make out! Bob

Bob, that is my thinking also but its hard for me to pass up a deal. I have many smiths now and don't regret buying any of them. I really only invest in shootable grade guns. More fun to shoot them than to look at them. I figured if this is a good price I would get it. Could always sell one of the 3 I have later if something comes up

Well, here are my thoughts...:
First, these are finding their way up in price....more in some parts of the country (west coast is pretty high unless one looks high and low and lucks out...) AND, you will not lose money on this deal. You will be able to sell it for what you paid for it....
Second, these are as nice a large frame Smith revolver as ever made. And they will NEVER be made again. Which is one of the reasons that they are gong up in price....
Third, as noted, money in the bank, that you can enjoy now and later. You can shoot it with (reasonable care) and still not lose money.
Fourth, is it possible to have too many Smith and Wesson revolvers?

Advice: Buy it. Don't wait. It will be sold. If not to you, to someone else and soon, not later. Best wishes. Wish I was in your position. It would already be in my possession.

LGS has a 4" with rubber grips for about the same price. If I had more safe space and less items on my wish list, it would be there already.

That is in nice shape. I would shoot it with the rubber on and find a nice set of magna's or targets to show it off with.
