28-2 value
I have a chance to buy 28-2 about NIB with paper work and screw driver.
It is a S series with a 6 inch barrel made in 1968.
Guy wants 950.00 which seems high to me from what I been reading hear.
thanks marty

That's a little high for my area... there is one in the box locally for $825, it has been for sale for a while.

I wouldn't want to pay more than about $700 or so for one as described. However, I usually end up paying more than I want when I have something in hand and I want it.

Seems a little early at $950, but there is a slight premium for nib and for the s-prefix. I know we like to find them for $600-700, but they are getting harder to find like that nib.

$800.00 would be top dollar and that's a bit of a stretch. $950.00 would even be too high for 4" dash two. Of course geography and emotion play a part also. It's a very common gun, box or no box.

I think that would be close if it was a 4 inch barrel but for a 6 inch it's too high.

I have been following 28's and 27's for a good year to see what they are bringing. At Tulsa last year in the spring there were ample examples in the $700 range (4" barrels) NIB and some slightly higher that you could tell they have been around for a while. That asking price seems pretty high to me - go find a 27 for that price. One sold today for $800 on this forum.

I'm going to be odd man out, again. If everything matches and is as shipped from the factory. I think you would be buying a year or two ahead of the curve. But that would give you a year or two's enjoyment from it.

As a shooter/field gun, really high for me. Im not a LNIB/box kind of guy.
Some are and thats great. Will the 28s keep climbing? Probably.
I look at all guns from the view point of as a Dealer/FFL , since I was one and still work for one in FL. If I really want one and I will shoot it, I usually spring for it. If it rocks you, try and work a deal with cash. Good luck.Best

Many sellers start out asking a sky-high price since they know they can’t go up but can always come down. Also, the seller may not be hurting for cash right now, so he can dangle it out there and see if he gets any bites.
I would be interested only if I - didn’t already have a comparable M28
- planned to preserve this one in its current condition
- had so much cash in the gun fund that I didn’t mind overpaying
No point in buying one like this if you plan to holster-carry it or even shoot it a whole lot.
If he wants a collector price, he will have to sell it to a collector. And they can be a shrewd, hard-bargaining bunch.

That's a tough call. Seems a touch high but with NIB and a 1968. I'd do it if I really wanted a Model 28.
I paid $650 for my 1962 and it is not NIB and had no paperwork. But I did find a box of the same era and the revolver shoots like a dream.

This weekend at the gun show, I saw a 28-2, pretty good condition with a little holster wear, no box, etc. Seller had $600 on it, when I showed interest, he immediately dropped to $500. Still too high for me, and I didn't dicker. I am not crazy about 28s, bought one new about 1970, didn't keep it long. But I might have gone $350-$400.

I think the price is fair if LNIB. The idea that the price is too high in the present, is cheap in the future. I cannot remember how many $200 Model 28's and $300 dollar mod 27's and $150 Heavy Duty's I have passed on years ago, thinking they were too high at the time. I would rather pay $900 for an older Mod 28, than anything made today. I have 2 mod 28-2 with 4" bbl. One had a low 4 digit sn (Nxxx) and is LNIB, the other 4" is a "S" sn with a "DPS 24XXX" (Dept Public Safety...Texas???) Roll-mark. The 6" mod 28-2 is a transitional...recessed cylinder-No pinned barrel...LNIB. I wouldn't sell any for $900. Trade maybe.

The side plate on your rubber gripped revolver doesn't seem to be fitted correctly. Just a heads up.......

Just this past Saturday there was a 4" 28-2 with perfect football cutout stocks on the local gunshow owner's table marked $695. And he ain't known for under pricing guns. Joe

At least $300 too high. About new in box means used period.

It is the "DPS" model. Somewhere in its history, an action/Dehorn/reblue took place by whom it was issued to; hence the sideplate no longer has a hairline match up.
