There was a M10 chambered in .357 that became the M13.

No. Actually, the first examples were produced on special order from the New York State Police and they were marked Model 10-6. That was the genesis of the Model 13-1. Other departments, including the FBI, heard about the .357-chambered Model 10-6 and expressed an interest in purchasing them. S&W's response was to produce them under a different model number and the Model 13-1 was born.

Mike
after Model 13 was introduced in 1974, marked as the Model 13-1. There never was a Model 13 with no dash number, because it already had the dash one features (left hand threaded extractor rod, 3 screw frame and heavy barrel) when it was first produced as the .357 Magnum version of the Model 10-6.

So, the order goes like this (by year of introduction):
13-1 - 1974
13-2 - 1977
13-3 - 1982
13-4 - 1988
13-5 - 1997
So if 13-6 was first then the 13-1?
Wat came after the 13-5?

Model 13-5 was the last one before the line was discontinued. There was no 13-6, there was a Model 10-6 chambered in .357 that was the prototype for the Model 13.

Model 13: The .357 Magnum Military and Police Heavy Barrel.

I really like my 13-2

No. The Model 10-6 came first. Then the Model 13-1.

Nothing came after the Model 13-5. No further engineering changes were made before 1999 when the Model 13 was discontinued.

There is a Forum Classified Section with guns listed for sale.
http://smith-wessonforum.com/guns-sale-trade/

But who knows what might be available at any given time. You may have to monitor the offerings for months before you see an M13.

You could always post a "Wanted to Buy" in this section:
http://smith-wessonforum.com/wanted-buy/

Again, no guarantees but you may get lucky.

In good condition, probably sell somewhere between $400 to $500. An older model that is pinned and recessed may bring a higher cost than one that isn't. I have one that was stamped 10-6, and then over stamped 13-1.

No problem. I just found it odd.
I guess you just wanted to get all the info into one thread. That's the problem with creating two different threads for the same question.

You too? You're the first other person I've seen post that they had one like mine!

Here are a couple of pictures with the marking's (sort of) "enhanced" to show the overstamping....

Pretty cool to know there are some others out there. I've always wondered how many were overstamped.

Mine is SN # D7705XX. What is yours?

Just to add a spin there was another variant of the .357 M&P that was strangely model marked as a 19-3 IIRC.
I look at this version as the blued granddaddy to the 65 Lady Smith with shrouded ejector rod.

In reality it doesn't make sense marking it a Model 19 since it had fixed sites but just pointing it out in case anyone encounters one out in the gun world.

I traded Hiero6 that gun for a S&W 67. While the 67 is a nice gun,I kick myself for trading it. Best DA on any S&W I've ever had, never touched springs or did a trigger job on it.
At 15yards could drop 5-6 plates ,25yards4-6 every time DA.
LEE 158 T/L wheelweights+ a little tin, 6 grains of Unique. That gun is spot on. Only load I ever shot in it. No need to fix perfect, you got a great gun there. I get first dibbs if you want to get rid of it.
