Post War K Frame Snubs M64
Most everyone knows, I collect K Frame snubs. Some observations. The ones from the late 1940's through early 1950's are very common, but they all have square butts. . .at least all the ones I find. I'm passing on the ones I see out for sale at this point. The ones from the 1970's are readily available with both SB and RB (RB's are just cool). Airweights are hard to find in grade (95% and up). Then there is this one. It's a M64-2. As we all know the M64 is very common and quite ungainly with that barrel that's too big for the gun; but, the snub is just perfect. Maybe it's just me or where I live, but this gun is a rare find around here. It's the last one I've been able to add to my collection. Actually, it's the only one I've ever seen around here. Maybe some of you all live where these things are just falling from the sky. I really like this one best of them all, and wish it would start raining some more of them.

After I returned from 'Nam I bought a 2" Model 64 for my bride. It has been her personal defense weapon for more than 40 years now. A great little gun!
In the 1940s, the S prefix 2" revolvers were made with both the round and square butt. Lots of pictures of the round butt models have been posted on this Forum over the years. Square butts too. The round butt .38 M&P was also made fairly regularly in the C prefix era. Lots of photos of them also on this Forum.

Here are two pics of some of the short barrel revolvers that reside in my gun room. Deb's Model 64 is in the middle in both photos.

About two months ago I purchased a 2" 64-2, ordered a Kramer pancake holster for it and almost haven't taken it off since I got the holster at Christmas. I love the extra weight over my 3" 60 when shooting +p, and it almost carries as easy.
Over the last year or so I've quit carrying my 65 LS because is was tearing up my sciatic nerve at my right hip, I had pain from my lower back to my foot. For whatever reason the 2" 64 doesn't cause me any problems. I'm not sure if it's the extra weight of the 3" barrel and shrouded ejector or the DeSantis holster.
I'm not really feeling under gunned with the 64 as apposed to the 65. I'm guessing not many bad guys will be able to tell the difference between Buffalo Bore 158gr SWCHP .38 special +p at 1000fps and the .357 Federal 158gr hydra shocks at close range.
I cant believe I've gone 25 years never owning a snubby middle weight. I am now a confirmed 2" K frame believer.

Come to think of it I don't see many 2 inch stainless guns for sale in my part of the world either.
I bought a Mod 64 with a short barrel off Gunbroker several years back and it is a most useful revolver!
Here's mine with it's Mod 10 square butt cousin.
