You are going to like it, Mike. 5" barrels are the cat's meow. Mine include several M&Ps (only two shown here), a special order 1952 Combat Masterpiece, a Model 27-2 and a very early 1902 Target .32-20.

Yeah, the M10-5. . .best gun Smith ever made as far as I'm concerned. Bought one in 1970 when we got married and moved to Mississippi. Actually found a nice 5 inch one two years ago at a pawn shop for $250. Those 5 inch ones don't show up very often.

Nice one. You'll enjoy it.

I've never owned a five-inch model, but I really like the balance of the standard barrel. My four-inch 10-5 house gun suits me nicely.

RCMP used them from 1954-they adopted 9mm autos in the 1990's and Detroit PD had them. It was also the usual format for .38-200 British Commonwealth revolvers.

I carried an issued one for a time and liked it very much. Very nice hang and balance and ballistics for a .38.

Congrats with the find. I have an M&P 4" and a 5". The 5" is definitely the better shooter for me. I think the 5" looks better also.

Actually it was. Going from 7 yards to 10 yards and the double action pull. But I nailed him while he was still laughing.

In 1976 when I became a police officer we carried Model 10's (nickel) with 5" barrel. About 1979 we transitioned to 4" barrels. I have a Model 10 4" that I bought last fall but have never seen a 5" at gun shows, shops, etc.

Rugged, reliable, and accurate. Nice pieces.

Now you need a 2" Model 10 or Model 64 (stainless). S&W K-Frame .38's are the best. Model 15-3, Model 10-7, Model 64 in the picture. My three favorites. The Model 64 I have had since 1976. The other two were acquired in recent years.

Nice revolvers VaTom. Verah nice. The only Smith snubby I have is the Chiefs Special. Also a Model 60-15 but that is a 3 inch.

Thanks for the compliment. "Pride of the Fleet" so to speak.

2" K-Frames are great shooters. .With practice you can be as nearly accurate as a 4" at distances. Qualified in low 90's yearly with the 64 2" on police course of fire (60 rounds) which included 18 rounds from 25 yards.

Some good finds there! I'm a fan of the 5" Smiths too. Great handling guns. Here's a recent find, 5" M&P 32-20 from the late 20's-

And a MSHP troopers gun 5", only 365 ordered in this length.

Nice one, Jeff! Here is mine. According to Roy's letter, this one left the factory on October 3, 1952, in the largest of four shipments to the MSHP. I was fortunate enough to purchase this revolver from the son of the Trooper who carried it on duty and bought it from the State Highway Patrol when it was retired from service. It came with the MSHP records, including the transfer documents when the trooper bought it. It is one of the prizes in my collection.

These CM 5" revolvers were replaced at the MSHP with Model 66 revolvers. When I obtained this example, it came packed in a Model 66 box that was shipped with one of the replacement revolvers to the MSHP. Markings on the box, put there by the department armorer, make that abundantly clear.

I'll guess 1978. There might be a typo in the 3rd edition of the Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson as it lists 1978 s/n from 2D80001 to 2D99999 and then starts 1979 with 4D00001.

Snubbies general bring a little more. Really need a photo but I'd guess $300 to $400 if in good shape.

Not an expert so don't take this to the bank.
