What is the best barrel length? I'll have it loaded under the bed for home protection, plinking, and then when I move out west in a few years. I figured 6" would be the best for grouping but some of you said that 5" is the best all around feel in this type of gun

I have 1hr on a new old stock 6" nickle 27-2 with box etc. I'm not sure how it's gonna work because the only bid is at starting 900 dollars but there's a red flag saying reserve not meant? Under that there's a box BUY NOW at 1800.00? What I'm lost on is what's the let go reserve 1800? If so I'm out of this buy

That's GB, right? I saw that auction and actually watched it for a few months. I've seen it get as high as $1300-1400 and still the reserve wasn't met. So I think that seller has it priced sky high and unrealistic.

Then I have to wait Harty days from tomorrow to get my second permit to buy the nickle gun. My local dealer is great to me so it will sit at his shop till I can pick her up
You better be watching at Midnight if you want it.

Looks like I'm out of the new old stock nickle gun. 12 minutes left and I'm the highest bid but I didn't meet the reserve. I'm not going higher than 1200 so this seller must have his reserve at his seller price of 1800

Here's a couple of pics from the auction of my long tube 27 I am in the process of getting shipped to my FFL guy. I won this one Friday night. I was the only bidder and I'm glad as it's starting price was right at the high end of what I was willing to pay anyways.

You did the right thing...and you guys could have bid each other up to even more extravagant levels. Believe me, this has happened to all of us. You will get yours. In fact, although that was a beautiful gun, I personally would rather have one that has been gently used, for less money. With an ANIB, as soon as you shoot it, you are going to lose money. Get a nice condition, and enjoy shooting it. Don't let this discourage you.

Best Regards, and if I didn't already do so....welcome to our mostly happy family here. I think you are going to fit in just fine!!

And if I may say so, it is great to see some younger blood here amongst our ranks, many of us are getting up there, and it's great to see younger members coming along who have a passion for fine revolvers!!

Best Regards, Les

I've been looking ever now and then, I knew two things it had to be a S&W and I wanted a. 357. Was looking at 686 but I didn't like them really then I started looking at the S&W classic, I was going to bite the bullet when my grandfather told me to look for an original pistol. He said new stuff is junk and if you want quality paybfor an original, so after loosing my bid last night to a fellow member I emailed another seller that had a factory fired 27-2 and asked if he would add a buy now option. Well within twenty minutes I had a email with a big old YES for a buy now!! So here's my new baby....pics from GB auction

Yep, I think you got a good one there man! I was watching that one along with the long tube gun and decided to go with the long tube gun instead because I was intrigued with a long barrel 27 and the auction was ending 5 days earlier, Since I work a 14 and 14 schedule and my work place is 750 miles away from where I live, I didn't want to end up with a new purchase that wouldn't arrive until after I left for work for 2 weeks. I look forward to seeing your new thread you will start after receiving that beautiful 27-2.

BTW, tell your Grandfather that not all the new revolers are junk. I bought a 627 Pro last April for a 60th birthday present and it is a well made gun and a real hoot to shoot. After a little TLC and messing around with mainspring and rebound slide spring changes, the trigger is every bit as nice as my old model 27s. And having 8 rounds of 357 Mag in the cylinder is a real hoot too. But it does lack in the looks department, as it has a flat sided barrel. But other than that, it is a great revolver. I've run roughly 2000 rounds down the spout on it since i got it.

Yea he thought I was crazy when I bought my m&p .40 a couple years ago. He said it would never last that a revolver is the only pistol to buy. I'm not sure how many rounds I have through it but it still looks NIB with zero wear

Hey Iggy, I've been a 27 addict since my first in 1974. The long tube gun will be the 6th model 27 I've bought (and not counting the 627-Pro I got last year as it's not a 27). I still own 5 of them and the 6th I gave to my daughter as a birthday present last year for protection at the house. She much prefers a quality N frame to a plastic wonder too. And every time I go to the range with her she lusts for my 629-3 Classic 44 mag too. But she ain't getting it until I am in the ground.

LOL, OK, I'll amend my post to "recent" instead of "new" buyers.

There's no hope for you.

BTW that's a beauty you snagged too. That one will reach out there a touch something for sure.

I would be happy to take a 27-2 3 1/2" blue off your hands so you don't have to buy a longer piece of PVC pipe!

Yes, I would. Put the nickled one away properly lubed and waxed, and in a few years the appreciation will pay for both of them. In the meantime, shoot the heck out of the blued handgun. Start with 38 Spec. and get use to the ergonomics and trigger. Then on occasion finish your practice with some full power 357 Mags. If this handgun stays loaded at home, load with 357 Mag if over penetration is not going to be a problem. Enjoy, your kids and grandkids will be shooting that handgun and enjoying it as much as you will. ....

Wow, someone must have gotten an early tax return back.

If you are looking for another revolver, look for a 3 1/2 or 4" 27-2 then. Beautiful guns in either blue or nickel. My 4" 27-2 is ANIB and was only test fired at the factory. And I haven't shot it either, since my 3 1/2" 27-2 is just shooter grade.

Awesome superduty!!!!! I feel much better now since I snatched that 5" last night! You gotta quit over thinking these purchases - only took me about 30 seconds to decide to buy that one last night. But I knew exactly what I was looking for.

Anyway, congrats to BOTH of us!

superdutyscaler, I just talked to the people who were selling the long tube 27-2 I won off GB this afternoon and it should be shipping out tomorrow. They are shipping it 2 day shipping, so I should have it by the end of the week.

How about you, have you heard anything from the person who was selling yours?

I've never waited longer than two weeks from my police department, I have no idea whats going on this time. I haven't even went to look at it yet because I'm annoyed I can't take it home...

Man, I'm glad I don't live in an area with such repressive policies. Sorry you live in an area that is so repressive on gun ownership. Hopefully the cop shop will get off their duffs and get your approval soon.

Good heavens. Permits? Just to buy a gun? No wonder you are looking forward to moving to Texas. You are going to have to take a couple of your own pics and show us, and let us know when you finally pick up your new shootin iron!!

Best Regards, Les

RE: The slippery slope. It's your durned fault. You guys and your discussions got my blood up.

While superdutyscaler has been going through throes of buying and waiting for his gun, this one came up for sale in a town 50 miles away. I was scared it wouldn't last until I could get there due to closed highways.

I called a friend in that town who was a District Court Judge and he went and got it.

A few days later when I could get over the mountain I went to his office to pick it up. Turned out to have never been fired after leaving the factory. Absolutely NIB.
I kinda like the way things work in Wyoming.

Really nice score, Iggy. That is really an exceptional gun, and a great story about how things ought to work here in this great country of ours!!

Is that one going to remain unfired?? Seems unlikely.

Best Regards, Les

les.b,
Yeah I think it may remain unfired. I've got 3 other 27s to entertain me if I feel the need to shoot something.

On my way to get my gun, TWO more questions...
1-what grain ammo for farting around shooting?
2-grain/type to have loaded for house invader?

#1..For target work/plinking factory ammo...I like the Winchester .38 Special 100 round bulk packs...130 grain jacketed round/flat nose bullet.

#2...time tested .357 Magnum 125 gr. JHP...most any maker will do.
