Mostly 4 inch guns but the occasional 2 1/2 inch could be had.

The holster is from Ebay and the gun don't get carried around in it!

That's a damn' shame. That gun is begging to be carried.

Well, I didn't just get mine, I was issued it about 40 years ago, and when my department switched to Glocks, we were allowed to buy our issued revolvers for what Glock was offering in trade in...which I think was about $160 each. I bought my snubby that I carried working plainclothes as well as my 4" that I was issued when I first started in uniform. Still have both of them, and they would be the last guns I would ever sell. They presented me with my Glock when I retired, so I have all the sidearms that I was issued during my police years. Also still have most of the guns that I carried off duty, although I traded around a fair ammount over my 22 years, but whatever I had when I retired, I have kept.

Here is my snubby, a 66 no dash. I know the stocks are worn, but I don't think I'll ever replace them, as that is all honest wear, that I put on the gun. It was issued brand new to me and I still have the boxes for both guns:

This is the holster that I most used when carrying this gun. I believe that is a Bianchi "Shadow". A very effective and simple holster that keeps a pretty low profile. Below is the gun without holster:

I have thousands of rounds through this little gun. I always used an aluminum Tyler T Grip, but I temporarily loaned it to one of my other favorite K frames...

Best Regards, Les

I picked up a -2 2-1/2 inch a few months ago, love the way it shoots, and want to carry it. May I ask which holster you find comfortable?

About 2 weeks ago, I drove almost 5 hours (round trip) to Orlando to snatch this little beauty. Price was $675. with box and all original paperwork (no tools).

When I got home (my typical time to notice things), I realized the serial number was different on the box and it was not original to my 66-1. It was an original box for a 2.5" 66 no dash.

I'm still very satisfied with my purchase, although I now have to find a 66 no dash to put in that darn box.

Default Great Gun!

Although, not a recent acquisition...

When I began my career, I bought this 66-4 snubby with my very first LE discount. And, since it was on the agency's authorized carry list, I carried it as my duty weapon until the switch to a semi-auto. It is still one of my absolute favorites!

Check that strain screw. It might just be the photo but it looks backed out to me.

When I began my full time law enforcement career in 1979 with the State of North Carolina my first issued handgun was a 2.5 inch Model 66-1. We carried it in an issued Roy Baker Pancake holster, loaded with 158 grain Remington JHP .357 magnum ammo. It was a bear to qualify with. Particularly at night given the muzzle flash from the short barrel. Early in 1983 we went to a four inch Model 66-2. We were given the opportunity to purchase the 2.5 inch guns for $150. My gun, which I got used, was out of time and shaved lead, and I was young and poor, so I passed on it. These guns were not marked in any way so I rationalized that it could be replaced later. Fast forward to 2008 when one of my Deputy Directors offered me a 66-1, 2.5 inch. The gun had been the issued gun of the Sheriff of Caldwell County, NC, who carried a personally owned semi-auto and it had probably a cylinder of ammo through it. I got the gun, the combat targets on it, the original magnas, box and tools for $400 so I did not complain that it had been fired a little bit.

This was the replacement. It was issued with PC Magnas and a Tyler T grip.

I'm a great fan of the Model 66-1 snubby. Particularly in cold weather under normal outer coats, it's an incredible discreet carry gun, and a real show-stopper if it ever needs to be employed. Interestingly, the 66-1 guns were the last pinned and recessed examples of the breed. Here's a couple of shots of mine, which I have equipped with my favored Ahrends stocks. These help in concealment because they don't "print" much, yet aid a lot in control.

John

I owned a 2 1/2 inch -2 from new and had it worked over as well. I loved the gun but decided to look for a 3" instead. I sold the 2 1/2 and found a 3" NIB. I wanted the full length ejector rod and longer sight radius. Love the 3".

I would venture a guess that folks are going to want a pretty penny.....this one a 66-3 is going for 1000 dollars in my neck of the woods.

I hear you DevilDog72

Actually those white looking ones are on a 2.5" 19-2 now! They are made of elk antler.

I will keep your "hint, hint" in mind

Looks like there are a lot of M66 snubby fans out there. I bought 66-2 (unpinned, not recessed) a few months back 'as new' for $500 Cdn. That's about $23.79 USD after the exchange ... ;>)
Put on a set of Ahrens grips and shoot it in IDPA.

That led to the purchase of a M19-4 (pinned/recessed) snubby for $375 CDN. It had been tuned for PPC but shot very little to look at it.

I'm currently negotiating on another M19 snubby as well. Like the man said - like potato chips, you can't just have one.

One of my IDPA pals has a pal who is a retired cop. He says he has at lest 40 S&W snubbies of various types. That's being down right greedy.

I have a 66-2 4inch but I would love to own a 66 snub nose! All these pics are making me jealous!

I was tempted when he offered to take off the stocks and let it go for $900.....oh so tempted. But I am only 4 days into the month and I would have exhausted my mad money too early into the month. January's budget was spent on a high power which I have posted in one of the current HP threads. I am one of those SW accumulators that thinks I have to have at least one .41. But now I am thinking I need to have one snubbed .357. Such first world problems to have......

I have read here that some folks don't think of 3" 66's as the snubby but since I saw a 3 incher in here I'll throw mine in too. It had a rubber mono grip on it when I received it but I really like the stag grips on stainless. A 66-2 Ashland, it's definitely been used, no box, but I needed a 3" to have all the barrel lengths.

Default Day and night guns...

These two serve me well as day or night guns - I want the bad guys, if necessary, to get a good visual on what they are up against. The 66 is a dash two, primarily because my dash one is a safe queen, and if I have to give one up for evidence, I'd prefer it, because it's not P&R. The 19 is P&R, but it's a duplicate.

John

A 2.5" 66 P&R is one I can't seem to "pin" down. Thanks for rubbing it in. : )

Didn't really see the big attraction to the model 66, I have a 686-3 2 1/2" and didn't really see a need for a 66 2 1/2", a month ago I traded into a 66-5, it was in 99% condition. I now see the big Attraction to this k frame .357. It is about as perfect a carry revolver as I have ever held. I am now a convert.

You all are doing well. Missed my chance at a Lew Horton 3" model and ended up with a 66-6. First of the internal lock models.

It will work just fine as a truck gun.

Will post pics later tonight but just got a 66-1 2.5" day before yesterday as a birthday present to myself. Went to local GSM about 2 months ago and was playing with one on a table. I carried an identical twin for years before LEO retirement. Was wondering why I ever sold such a comforting old friend. So was on the lookout since that day.

Found on GoingBroker, like new condition, for $750. Hit the Buy Now key instantly.
Came in and better than described. Pics to follow. They truly are outstanding carry guns. Small enough to conceal well, large enough to shoot well.

I'm still very satisfied with my purchase, although I now have to find a 66 no dash to put in that darn box.

Who made the grips?

Recent acquisition for me, a 66-5 3.25 inch w/ hi viz front sight. It's my only 66, and its pre lock but not pre mim. Shown with a few of my 38 special reloads, 158 grain coated Missouri lswc, 3.6 grains of titegroup. They shot great in my model 10-8, have yet to try them in the 66-5.

Uncle Mike's K & L frame (Round Butt) Grips #59006.

They were designed by Craig Spegel and commissioned by Michaels of Oregon. I've tried several different grips on my snubs, but keep coming back to these.

No longer in production and getting a little harder to find, but still obtainable from ebay fairly often.

Some great pictures...... my second gun was a 2 1/2" 19 and later a 66....... but as I looked through this thread I was reminded....... if you are lucky enough to find a 3" 66 you'll never go back to a 2 1/2 inch.

moralem's post with the stag grips........ says BBQ all the way!!!
