The property I deer hunt is the final resting place for a lot of empty Bud Light cans. The previous property owner apparently liked to consume while deer hunting as they seem to be close to old green buckets.

Fast forward to my walks in the woods with my 34-1 - the cans are all targets! How fun!!!

It is known as the .22/32 Kit Gun. First introduced in 1936 as a 4" version of the .22/32 Heavy Frame Target model (6" barrel). It is a .22 caliber revolver built on the .32 size frame (I frame at that time).

It went out of production during the war, like just about everything else. Reintroduced in September, 1950, it became the Model 34 in 1958. Beginning sometime in the 1950s, a 2" barrel was added to the lineup. In 1960, the I frame was discontinued and the Kit Gun was thereafter made on the slightly larger J frame. That was the beginning of the Model 34-1.

Here is a picture showing a nickel, 4" Model 34-1 and a blued 2" Model of 1953 .22/32 Kit Gun (from before it was the Model 34).


Later, a stainless version was introduced. It is the Model 63.

After 5/6 years of looking finally found a 4" 63 in a LGS just before Christmas.................. looking forward to spring in "Penn's Woods"!!!

You guys are giving me a case of the winter blues, or maybe just making them worse.

It will be nice to get the 34 out this spring and get some good out of it. They are fun little guns indeed. Too bad the present cost of .22 ammunition seems so out of whack. The good thing is that it is still just as much fun to take it along as ever.

Wish I could find a place near me to pop off some cans. Alas none I can find and I miss that fun. My 2" 34-1 accompanies me to the range regularly and gets plenty of exercise on the plate rack and dueling tree. It is my most shot gun. Rifle or handgun because is the most fun to shoot.

This is the first S&W I ever purchased. It was used to slay many cans and balloons. This past summer it was used to kill many golf balls.

Murderous little thing. Pretty, too.

I'm not sure of the date of manufacture of this fine revolver but, I will say it is really fun to take afield with me !

Oh my goodness now there's yet another Smith I would love to have, a two inch 34. Fantastic! I shot my 63 no-dash and K22 yesterday. The four inch 63 with Pachmayer's grouped every bit as good as my K22. More of a function of the balance of the 63 with those Pachmayer's, just feels right. I was admittedly a little shaky with the 6" K22
