Help Price S&W Mod 49 - NIB
I am trying to sell a Model 49 for my father-in-law. He is retired and needs the money. This is a new in box, with box and original paperwork included. He purchased this gun in 1977, I have the original bill of sale. It has never been fired. What do you think it is worth? Should I sell it at a pawn shop or does it have some collector value. Pics below. Serial # J390XXX
Thanks.

From what I've seen, you will likely get a fair offer from one of the members here who wants it!

...pawn shop will give you about half of what they think they can get for it...if they want to turn it over fast you won't get much of what it's really worth...

A pawn shop is likely to give you about 40% of the collector's value, unless they are in the mood to take advantage of the unwary. I'm thinking $700-$800 value, but may be corrected by others who are likely to see this. Are you sure you don't need it? It is very, very nice.

A NIB no dash model 49 should bring $600+, and that figure could be conservative. Don't sell it to a dealer or pawn shop. You'll lose hundreds if you do. Good luck.
