Default 36-1 potential purchase

I need a little help; I'm in the middle of a move and all my S&W literature is boxed up at my ex's house so I can't look anything up.
Here's what I'm looking at:
36-1 square butt 3" barrel, blued
SN 559409
My gun shop contact told me it's a 1955/56 manufacture, which I know right off is wrong because it's Model marked and 3" heavy.
Should be 60s I think?
He also told me he's shown it to another potential purchaser, and that guy told him it should have diamond center stocks. I don't think so, but maybe? Didn't diamond stocks stop in late 60s?
What I'm wondering is, when did the J serial start, and should this gun have diamond stocks? Also possible manufactured date.
Thanks for the help.

Hugh

Hugh, 36-1 began production in 1967, the Diamond Center stocks stopped in 1968 and J serial #'s started in 1969. Hard to pinpoint actual production (shipment) date of this gun as the last non J serial number was 786544 in 1969. A SWAG at the date of shipment would be 1967-68 which would mean it may or may not have had diamond center stocks.

Awesome, thanks heater1. So, if I'm not mistaken, the right stock should still have the SN stamped? I'm going to ask for a picture and see if stocks match.
