Default Trying to figure out a model 10-6

Here is what I do know...
Model 10-6. Low number "d" serial.
5" barrel, I think it's a heavy barrel.
Serrated trigger, hammer has "pyramids" or whatever you want to call them, it isn't smooth, they're case hardened.
The gun seems to be nickel plated. Except the top of the barrel has a satin finish, almost like a satin stainless. It is definitely not polished, nor is the finish an aftermarket refinish.
It is clearly stamped "10-6", but this nickel look with a brushed stainless appearance along the sight line is confusing me.
It isn't a brushed line, the entire top of the gun looks like brushed stainless, from sight to sight.
Is that normal?
Thanks in advance

Yes. It is normal.

The Model 10-6 was the heavy barrel version of the Model 10 Military & Police revolver from 1962 until 1977. When it got a nickel finish, the top of the barrel was dull, like bead blasted. This was to reduce glare.

The area on top of the hammer spur is checkered, for better grip with the thumb when cocking it for single action use.

Normal. Top of barrel is in satin nickel to cut down on reflection. The barrel is 4", not 5". We'd like to see some pics. Tell us more about how you acquired it. By the way, welcome to the forum!

Thanks for the info.
I dont own the gun. I'm really thinking about getting it.
A guy I work with has it, he wants $300 for it. The grips have a little wear, but they're original, and there is very faint bit of wear on the cylinder from the deal that makes it spin, I don't know what that's called. But it doesn't have any noticable holster wear, and the barrel is very nice.
I would buy it it to replace my 1929 s&w .38 that I lost in a recent divorce. The one gun I really liked...Oh well.
I'm sure this particular item is well worth the $300, and I could probably make my money back if I got in a bind.

Yes, a slightly finish worn model 10-6 in nickel is well worth $300. The early D prefix puts it as a 1968. Sorry for your social troubles...

That mark is usually referred to as a "turn line." It is caused by slight drag between the notches by the cylinder stop when the cylinder advances to the next notch. It isn't a big deal and is almost always present on a S&W revolver.
