Default Need help putting a value on a Model 19-4

If this is the wrong area I have no problem with the administrator moving it.

I have a S&W Model 19-4 that is in perfect condition. It was given to an Ohio Police Chief as a retirement gift. He relocated to Jax. Bch. Fl. and ran for Sheriff and won. He later ran for councilman and won. Knowing the history of it since I live at the beach and know the owner of the FFL that was telling me the history of it I bought the gun. He said he was told it had not been fired. I bought it and went to the range and shot one box of ammo through it.
It has been a few years and I am wanting to sell it but have no idea of a fair starting point to get a fairly quick sale and both parties get a decent deal. If I go to auction places you see their starting values but not the total condition and what they actually sold for. I was hoping someone here may be familiar with this particular model and their true values. It is a 4" barrel.
Here are a couple pictures I took with my phone so lighting is not perfect but will give the right person an idea.
It also came with a separate set of grips. On the bottom it says "Presentation Grips by Pachmayr).

Thanks in advance to anyone that can help.

It looks very nice. If you have the original box and contents I would guess $800 easy, and in the $700 range by itself (quick selling prices). If you put it on auction you might get more. Seems like a good one to keep though .

I can't recall what I paid for mine a year or so ago, maybe two years, but in today's market for a gun in that kind of condition it depends on your buyer. An auction buyer might take the price to $1000. A S&W Forum buyer (a great example, actually) $700 to $850. My problem is I buy such guns and never sell them so I could be all wet!

Thanks to all three that made suggestions. If I have read it right, it sounds like if I want to sell it on the forum which is easier than the auction (and the way I have sold other guns in the past) I would probably look at getting around $750 to $800. If I want more then need to go to the auctions and possibly get up to $1,000 or more.
If anyone has advice on past sales they would rather put in an email please tell me anything that may help me. [email protected]
Depending on what anyone else says today I will probably go for the lower number and sell it on the forum.
Thanks to everyone that has tried to help so far,
Ted

Really nice 19-4! I looked at a 19-4 six inch yesterday. Showed barrel holster wear and wear in a few other places. It was priced at $899 but it has been there awhile and by the time I left the shop was down to $640 plus tax but I didn't take it. By comparison yours is worth considerably more. I think the previous estimates of $750-$800 would get a quick sale. With box and papers maybe up to $1,000. Good luck.

Try using the advanced search option on Gunbroker and filtering it to 4" Model 19-4 solds only.
The problem with the big auction sites is the high priced stuff keeps relisting and the bargains sell quickly so you see alot of overpriced ads.

The 19-4 ran from around 1977 to around 1981, judging only by the speed loader stocks im guessing your is fairly late production.

I would value your 19-4 at 700-750 if no box. I was in a LGS picking up a transferred in revolver, and spotted a 19-4 and a M&P R8 in the case, and brought them home also. Here is the 19-4 serial is 65K making it a 1980, and grips are stamped 7/80 on inside of right grip. Same condition as op's pistol, these are really sweet. Sorry for poor lighting need to get outside on a good day, whenever that will be.
And a pic of the R8 or it never happened.
