Default Trying to find my New (to me) Model 10's DOB

I have a model 10 that I just picked up and I am trying to nail down a date of manufacture. I was told you all were the best place to check in.

My Smith is a:
Model 10-5 .38 special with a 4" barrel. Serial # D4631XX

I am pretty certain it is produced mid 60s because it is a 10-5, but I would love to know the year and any other interesting info there may be on similar models.

Thanks,

Serial # D4631xx

D420,001 – D510,000………Late 1972 – Early 1973 (production)
The 10-5 was produced until 1977 when it was replaced by the 10-7.

Default Thank you for the info.

Also, did any of this era model 10 have a painted or colored front sight post. My front ramp is a faded red that I think was painted on by a previous owner. Just curious if this was ever something that was stock on Model 10's.

Thank you again for the info and the quick response.

The sights on these revolvers were bare, no added colouring. Adding some red model paint or a dab of white out was a common addition by owners.
