Model 28 Original sights?
I was looking at an S300000-S330000 (I don't recall exactly) model 28 today at a LGS. It had diamond grips numbered to the gun so it was probably around 1968-1969 production. The rear sight was white outlined and the front had a yellow-green insert in the ramp. The dealer said the sights were original but I have my doubts. Could that combination have been a factory option in the late 60's? The piece was in OK shooter condition.
Thanks, Willyboy

Possible on the white outline rear but unlikely, and highly unlikely to have anything but a red front insert if anything. A letter of authenticity would tell you but I would bet plain black sights on both ends.

According to Roy Jinks' writing, the ONLY options available in the Highway Patrolman were the choice between 4 and 6 inch barrels and optional walnut Target stocks instead of Magnas.
I think that the Highway Patrolmen delivered to the NYSP were the first ones to get a pass on this policy and got red inset front and white outline rear sights. This was in N546xxx serial number range, from SCS&W III.
Inserts and white outline blades are simple to do by yourself if you are even a slight bit handy.
Insist on a factory letter to confirm originality if the selling price at all is dependent on the claim of "factory original."

Did I read here for elsewhere that a Model 28 was documented with those sites and it'd been something like a salesman's sample?
I agree with others ..... factory letter needed for sure. However, if it's cheap enough a feller may just take a chance on it anyway!!

AS a "SHOOTER" if those things are not gun correct, who cares?
If a collector grade piece, wouldn't do it. If the price is right, buy it, and shoot it! Just my .02 worth. Let us know how you make out! Bob

Never got this one lettered, but I'm reasonably sure it left the factory with the yellow insert. Yellow was apparently an option that could be ordered.

I'm in the doubter column about the yellow/white outline being factory. We bought those things by the hundreds (about 2000 total) and were told no. On a special order one of, and if you were connected some way, perhaps. As to pinned front sights, they said the 27 has them!
Best,
Jack
