Here's thread I haven't seen up in some time. It may not be the ULTIMATE Masterpiece thread, but I think it's close and may be of interest to you.

Does K304434 have SNs on barrel and cylinder? I think that's about the time those were omitted by S&W.

You're lucky. I had it out after putting new Hogue's on it. No SN on either. The crane does have an assembly number and the barrel is as smooth as a baby's bottom.

dilly your obviously a youngster but nice to hear you appreciate a good revolver! So few young shooters do. They think I am crazy when I say the revolvers are with proper handling far more accurate than the modern polymer autos, until they see it

All matching including grips. Circa 1970. Paid $350 a few months ago. So, I'm cheap and patient. I had been missing a M15 from my collection forever. SN 1K488XX. Not really notable enough to letter, so I could be off on the ship date by a year or two.

Thanks. I've always been a Smith revolver fan, ever since as a youngster shooting my great uncles m18 and m29 (first handgun I ever shot, at 9, the men in my family had a nice laugh). I have his 18 no dash, the 29-2 is still mia...

About three years ago I passed up a LNIB early 1950s CM for $500. I still weep silently when I think about it.

My K719922 model 15-2 from 1967-ish (corrected). Its been refinished a couple of times, Duracoated, bead blasted, repolished, reblued again, had the hammer and trigger replaced a couple of times, has a non factory front sight insert, a non original white outline .126 rear slider and wearing non-period correct presentation stocks.

I've only got one, a -2 from I've been told, 1966.
It has the target hammer, trigger, trigger stop, and diamond target grips. S/N K679203
I had watched it for several days on a local "gun for sale" board as the price dropped from $500.00 to $400.00, $25.00 at a time. I couldn't believe no one else bought it. The diamond targets are pretty pricey themselves I think.

How about a 5" (IL State Police special order) K k285764 shipped 7/3/57.
It currently wears some non-relieved Targets. When the original owner had it completely brought up to date and re-blued, they put then (1966) current Targets on it. I had to get it back to original.

I had a nickel 2" Model 15 that was stolen. Years later I made up for it when a Forum member posted this and I snapped it up; I will post the SN next time I take it out of the safe. I have no clue as to the ship date but I will see what the SCSW says.
It does shoot great; I mostly carry 2" K frames so I really should carry this one.
I have to admit that I have always been so enamored of the Model 10 that I never actually considered the Model 15 to be the best .38 Special ever but I understand the argument.

Harry Jarvis engraved k38 shipped on my Dad's 36th birthday, Oct 20, 1950. Don't have the serial number here, but it starts with K107xxx. It shipped to gunshop in Harry's home town, and engraved outside the factory. One of the few Smith's signed by him. Click on the pics to enlarge for detail look.
Hard to appreciated the deer image even in hand, until you get it enlarged on the computer screen.
Charlie
NOTE: Having Photo bucket issues, replaced with Postimage pics. May show both.

I found this one several months ago, lower left with the "wrong size" Combat grips that are on the gun upper right. The guy that traded it in found the original grips, numbered to the gun and dropped them off at the shop where I bought it. Got the original grips and a nice set of N Combats. #K148993. 1952.

Dick I think you got your pics or serials mixed up, the photo posted above is a 5 screw more likely from 1953 with a serial between K-160,000 and K-190,000
