Proud owner of a Model 28-2
Picked this up today. I believe I am going to enjoy this revolver. This from 7 yards; my first shots ever with any "N" frame.

LOL, I went from 0 to 3 in pretty short order, it's a slippery slope.

I think the 28 models are undervalued at this time. Got a -2 and a -3, both six inch barrels, and they pretty much beat the new offerings, in my opinion. I won't send off for a letter, but I'm sure learning their history would be interesting....when you buy something new, you ARE the history of the weapon...someone 50 years down the line will wonder who was that guy/gal who owned this thing?

Congratulations on getting a great revolver. The Highway Patrolman was my first gun, and it's still my favorite. I have three at the moment. If you have the chance to get a 6" grab it. I definitely think appreciation for them is growing, based on the prices I'm seeing. The days of getting really nice Model 28's for less than $400 are long gone.

When I put the target stocks on I did learn the magna's were matched to the revolver. That was a nice surprise bonus. As hard as they were to get off it was also not surprising.

My online guy had m28/6" for $695 and m27/6" for $795 about 4 years ago in 99% condition. Sometimes I still see these prices.
Do we wait or buy? I don't think we can wait for too long.
The m28 in 357 mag hp is gaining in popularity like the m58/m57 in 41 mag. All of a sudden in the past few years there sought after.

Congratulations on the purchase of your Model 28-2 as they are great revolvers and they are the same mechanically as the Model 27-2 except for the checkered steel top strap and the high luster blue on the Model 27-2.
Here's my 28-2 with 4 inch barrel

My story is I could see no reason to buy anything that big...
N frames just appeared silly to me... aren't many elephants wondering around Nebraska... then it started...
I got a 4" 28 no dash from 1959... honest patina but still in great shape... grips number to gun... I paid about half what I had just spent on a model 66-2 4" in just OK shape... figured it would be trading fodder... then I took it to the range... wow... luv the 28... which leads to another 28-2 6" and then to 2 - 629-1's 6" & 8 3/8"... then 625's... Long Colt mountain gun and 5" ACP... it happens quickly... hold on to the wallet... just not too tight... they are worth it...

You just have to love N fame Smiths. I thought I was a N frame guy too, then when I redid the gun safe situation. I found out I had 1 more K frames than an frames. But, I fixed the problem with another N frame. Bought another 629-1. But, I already had a 5" 45 barrel and a reamer. Going to be another 45 in the safe.

You scored a nice revolver.
Definitely one of the S&W classics.
Nice shooting for the first ever of a couple things.
And now... we'll see you posting more here with
"see what I just bought"
It's a slippery slope and you just slipped onto the slope

Targets Guy, Just wish my 28-2 dash that I picked up in February look as good as yours. Congratulations. On a side note I still have my dad's class A 7th Army Corps patch from his service in WWII. Thank you for your service. hardcase60

Very NICE! I am lacking a 4 incher. I bought my 6" (won) on G.B. some years back. It is a no dash from 1960. I have a great set of factory diamond target stocks for it. Every day wear is a set of Herretts. They just feel so good in my hand. Bob

Nice group. They are shooters for sure. A bit heavy for caliber but they will last several lifetimes, and that weight really helps tame the recoil.

Three years ago this weekend, I found my first 28-2 with a 6 inch barrel. Paid $365 for it. Last year I finally found one with a 4 inch barrel. Paid $365 for it as well. Those days and those prices vanished quickly.
