Its a m14-3. Nice combat stocks, but what about the sights and barrel?

It's a custom PPC revolver, set up for that form of competition. Sellers sometimes seem to think these are worth a lot of money. They are too specialized for me and being double-action only I have little interest. As a shooter I don't mind the sights and the barrel. But I'd want to convert it back to DA/SA. They often look heavily used.

Go to gunbroker and search "PPC revolver". There's always a few there.

PPC was a hot thing back in the 70's, but nowadays, not so much. Like Glenwolde said, very specialized. For 750, I think it would be a tough sell. Just not that much interest these days.

For that price you could get a nice stock Model 14 K-38. They go begging for bids at that starting price on gunbroker all the time. Search the completed auctions in advanced search. I'm not sure what the real market value of a good condition Model 14 is but I would suspect maybe $600?

Customized guns are a money pit. You destroy any collector value and you almost never recover the cost of the work done to it. You'd have to find somebody that wanted exactly what you built.

I'm a paper puncher myself. I've shot most every configuration of K & N frames and have come to a conclusion about what I like. 6" heavy barrels, target triggers, partridge front sight, stainless steel. I couldn't find exactly what I wanted so I built one.

I found a beater M 66-2 at a gun show. One of the problems at this point is most of the guns I like have significant wear. I sent it off and had it restored and added some features. They removed the end-shake, set the barrel back to restore the gap to .003.

Added a .500" K frame target trigger. Set the trigger pull to 3 1/2#. Mounted a DX style interchangeable front sight base along with an extra wide rear sight blade (both from Weigand). Not only an improved sight picture, but the replaceable blade in the front prevents issues I've had in the past with .357's. When you can shoot everything from 200 gr .38's to 110 gr .357's sometimes you run out of adjustment. I hate that. No problem, just install a taller/shorter front blade. It's spring loaded and easy to pop out/in.

Reamed the throats to .358 and cut an 11 degree forcing cone. Then they bead blasted the whole thing.

Great target gun, but I'm into it for almost a $1,000 which I'll never get back. But I don't care as I've gotten a decade of use out of it and it's still going strong. I pretty much only shoot .38's out of it anymore. It'll shoot under 2" at 25 yards with a cast 158gr SWC in .38 Spl cases.

I knew there wasn't any collector value to it, I was just wondering what the reasoning behind the mods.

Some left them DA. I liked SA pull at longer distance. Even if not, the DA only pull is light enough for serious work if properly done. I never got serious enough about PPC to use other than a tuned 28.

Best,

Jack
