Where to sell?
After much soul searching I've decided that I will part with my 29-2. My question is ( and admin, if this is not appropriate for this forum please advise and I'll delete! )
Where is the best place to sell. Online auction, this forum WTS section, gun shows, etc.....
I'd like to get a decent price but more importantly I'd like to see the old girl go to a good home. It is a safe queen at my place and that's just not right.
I'm at an age that I'd just as soon buy a few pieces that I'll actually go out back and shoot!

Welcome to the forum.
Sell it here in the classifieds and add lots of high res pics. You could put it on GB but if you are not an established seller with a sterling reputation, the odds you will get a top of the market price are very slim...

I agree. The folks that frequent this forum are here because we enjoy our Smith and Wessons, and we enjoy seeing other as well. I'm guessing that you will get as good of a price here as you would at an auction, without any fees involved. High end guns sometimes take longer to sell, but high quality photos are a must for top dollar. Best of luck!

I have sold a number of guns at a consignment auction down the road I set my reserve and if I get it all good if not I'll take it home. for example I paid $366 for a shield 45 and sold at the auction for $490. several other weapons I have made a good profit on. Sure beats trading at a dealer plus no hassle with shipping

I'm not sure of the condition of your 29-2 and it's barrel length but you should at lease do a search on Gun Broker to see what they sell for in that barrel length and condition. I say this so that you know what it would probably sell for up there and than you can price it for what you want up here. If it fails to sell here you can then list it there.

If you sell here, you'll do the research on the price as you have to name a figure. You can always set a high price and drop it, however. Selling online on an auction site may get you a higher price, especially with a bidding war.
However, if you are looking for a good home for you 29-2, it is much more likely to find one here, especially to a long-term member with lots of posts...and no, that is not an offer to buy it . Good luck in your decision.

Your local armslist is a great place to list it. If you are in a large or medium size city, or near one, you should be able to sell it within a couple hours , and you will get to meet the buyer face to face and chat, so you will
know it is going to a good home. A lot of Smith & Wesson collectors check their local armslist several times a day in hopes of scoring a 29-2 .
98% of the listing are plastic dildo guns, so when a real gun is listed , it is usually like a shark feeding frenzy .

bigmoneylewis is correct I check Armslist almost daily. As well as other sites. One never knows what treasure will popup. That said I've never had a bad experience buying from any seller on this forum. One such transaction led to making a friend. Best of luck!! hardcase60

murphydog nailed it. I've bought and sold quite a number of guns here since joining several years ago. I don't use Gunbroker or Armslist to sell, too many dealers for my taste.

On most anywhere other than here you will have a majority of "dealers" offering low-ball prices. On the Forum you at least know we are all interested S&W collectors/accumulators/shooters that appreciate S&W's and will give it a good home.

Try here in classifieds. Take it to a gun show. Don't expect any dealer to give you top dollar. Someone attending the show looking for what you have may pay off, if you sell it to them. Armslist classifieds is another possibility.
Welcome to the FORUM, and good luck! Bob

I have had some good luck with ARMSLIST. Easy to use and local. I also like the S&W Forum classified section, but then we have to ship and send lots of pictures.
