Welcome to the Forum! No need to apologize, we were all new here once!
Your Model 15-3 Combat Masterpiece was made in 1972. The 3K numbers are spread over two years - 1971-72. The 1972 numbers start at about 3K31000.

Jack,
Thank you again for the quick response. Is it too much to ask for a couple more D.O.M's?

Your 586 is from mid 1987 and your 686 is probably from 1986 or maybe 1987. Hope this helps. My info is from the SCSW 3rd edition so maybe others can get you closer.

Welcome from the nc highlands! You sir have picked the best Smith to start off with IMO. The k-38 combat masterpiece is my personal favorite.

Welcome to the Forum from Arkansas. You certainly picked some good ones to get started. As far as I have been able to ascertain from the very knowledgeable folks here, +P is ok for your Mod 15 in moderation.
Regards
Larry
