Model 53 advice
Have a chance to buy an 8 3/8th m53. It has a leupold scope mounted on it (no interest in the scope), diamond targets, sao trigger. Asking 600, probably get it for a little less.

Buy it and hope scope mount didn't mess up top strap and owner still has rear sight. You can flip it / trade bait... for that price if you decide later you don't want it.

Do these scope mounts use the rear sight screw holes or will it be riddled up with new ones?

Sorry, can't see the pic, but the scope should be worth $150, and the grips prolly o'er $100.... so gun should be worth it.
If you're intending to shoot it: do you reload? Ammo can be found but not cheap, and it's not like walking down to wally world to pick up a box. I think that should be a consideration when buying.
So, was the gun modified for scope mount? or a no drill mount used? Were the sights removed, and are they still available?
the sao would bother me... just that it was modified, so someones been monkeying around inside....

If the top strap was drilled for the mount and/or the rear sight isn't available I'd pass. Ammo a problem if you don't reload.

I am going to pass on it. It hasn't been drilled/tapped, the rear sight is gone, and it has some putting on the frame...

PPU makes the Ammo now.
Reeds also
About 30-35 for a box of 50.
Buy it. Sell the scope n buy the rear sight. Offer less. And go from there. I believe it's worth that easy.

Before you remove the scope may want to try it. Takes getting used to to line your eye up but gets easier in time. I have eight long barreled scoped S&W guns (all have Leupold mounts). All my plastic gun buddies are changing their range schedules to get in on the fun. Instead of dumping a $100 in ammo into a silhouette their discovering the diminishing world of target shooting. That guns worth close to double that price.

I have to agree depending on how much rust is on the gun. Big Larry

For $600 that gun would have already been in my gun safe...
If it had the screw in front of the trigger guard that would have been a 1961 first year of production no- gun...with the diamond walnut grips it very well could have been.
Take the scope off, get a new rear sight and that gun could have been rolled over for $850-1000 plus the sale of the scope and mount...

If that was local here I'd be on it like a pitbull on a bone. I've had Jets, but all were 6". Always wanted an 8-3/8".
