Every now and then I see a S&W revolver in nice shape, but the sideplate seam looks wrong. Often near the top, it looks as if there was binding. Maybe not fit correctly at factory. Maybe improperly removed sideplate.
It looks hideous to me. How do we account for this in % or value?
There is a way to remove and replace the sideplate without forever messing it up , but most arm chair gunsmiths can't be bothered with those pesky details, screwdriver it off and ballpeen hammer it back on is Bubba's motto.
I'm willing to bet money most of the ill fitting was done after it left the factory.
