Default S&W Model 9895

I just received a revolver I purchased on Gunbroker.com Model # is 9895, serial # C 103455, .38 special, 5" barrel. What kind of info can you tell me about it? When made?

Hi jkester519, and welcome to the Forum.

First, 9895 is not a model number. Your revolver is too old to have a model number. I show a very nearby serial number (C1036xx) that shipped in April, 1950. Yours would have left the factory roughly about the same time. Model numbers did not come into use until 1958.

Your revolver is a .38 Military & Police from back when S&W revolvers had model names and not model numbers. 5" barrels were still pretty common at that time and, in my opinion, is the perfect length for this gun.
