Default Rescued 10-5

I picked up a 10-5 in a trade that had been in storage for years in a foam lined case. Some moisture got on and damage occurred. Cylinder chambers and barrel bore was almost perfect. It cleaned up nicely. Still working on the original grips...

Nice job. What did you soak the revolver in?

I am usually not a fan of any refinishing but in this case it did turn out very nice - is it a parkerizing or some coating?

It's black dip parkerizing from Duracoat. I soaked in Kroil for a week, media blasted and then parkerized. Lock-up and timing are spot on...just had to get rid of the rust.

I also took a 10-5 in equally as bad a condition and re-blued it.

It had a large area of crusted run marks. I can only assume it was blood and maybe a suicide gun. After scrubbing it really well with brass wool and Kroil, I soaked it in a 50 - 50 mixture of white vinegar and water. It only took a few hours and all the remaining bluing was removed and the revolver was in the white.

It looks much better now and is a good shooter grade revolver.

Great looking 10 you have sir. I started my LE career with a Model 10-5 in 71. A great service revolver par excellent! Still retain one here in 2017 and was carrying a 10-6 up to retirement a few months ago. The heavyweight champ in cop .38 service revolvers in numbers produced since 1899. Thanks for showing us.
