S&W Model 10-8 4" Heavy Barrel
I have a S&W Model 10-8 4" Blued Heavy Barrel Serial Number 6D84810. I though the serial number looked odd starting with a 6. It came in the original box with all the paperwork, the box has the same serial number. I thought that they started with letters around this time frame.

The D was the last lonely letter at the beginning of a serial and ended around the time the 10-6 advanced to the 10-8 in 1977. From then on, the D slipped behind the first digit, and yours would fall in 1979/80.
