Default Mfg date of my model 34

I have a 2" model 34 no dash, blue, pinned barrel, serial number 51xxx
What year was this manufactured?

Hi and welcome to the Forum.

In my .22/32 Kit Gun list I show 32230 shipping in February, 1958, and 31692 shipping in June, 1958. Neither of those are marked as Model 34. I would estimate yours to have shipped sometime in 1959, perhaps 1960. But since we don't know the rate at which these went out the door and S&W did not ship in serial order, that is only a guess. It could have been later.

My 2" 34, marked "MOD-34, s/n 44400 shipped 1/4/60. This one is an I-frame.

Just to be clear, they were all I frames until the Model 34-1 was released sometime in 1960. The serial range for the J frame 34-1 starts somewhere above 7,000.
