Three New Smiths this month
Currently going Ape-***** over some older classics and have purchased three of my yet-to-own favorites in the last couple weeks. I've had the pleasure of owning (up to this point) a 15-3, a 586 in 6", a 686-3 in 4" and a 442-1. But that's clearly not enough.
Two are on the way presently, but the first (and maybe best) is home. Hence...
Part 1: Model 66-1
Always wanted one of these to actually carry on a daily basis. For that purpose, it doesn't get much better than this, except maybe a 3" but that's out of my price range.
Part 2: Model 686-1
Well, not a pre 1980 specimen, my apologies, but fun at the range with .357 calls for something a bit larger than the 66. So here is a fine shooter that will not mind the hotter ammo. Not as lean or mean as the snub above but certainly a bit more effective with that 6" barrel and an endshake free cylinder with a b/c gap of .004. Velocity much?
Part 3: Model 19-3
The go-to all rounder is the 4" Combat Magnum, so it's a nice in-between for the two above. While it's not the prettiest in finish nor is it wearing correct stocks, it's tight as a drum and the trigger is a dream. The cylinder was binding when I got it and I had to scrub out 30+ years of grime from the cylinder and related parts. It's going to be a great shooter and an ideal HD weapon for the wife.

It is a bit of a rush when you start figuring in your mind that you "need" x and y additional models to round out your collection before the prices soar again.

And then a big let down when you open your wallet and a fly buzzes out.

I've always wanted one of these k frame magnum snubs, but I really wanted it to be a nickel 19....about two months ago I ran across a 66-1 for $500 out the door..... it lives with me now.....we're both happy....

I actually prefer blued firearms but for a dedicated carry revolver the 66 made more sense than the 19. Had to pass on a 13 3" which would have taken this one's place, but only due to that one's high mileage...I'd have taken the extra care required for that blued finish, as it's a bit of a grail gun for me.
The next two are forthcoming, but likely not as rare or exciting. Will update the first post when they arrive.

You're treading on thin ice here. N-frame lust is just around the corner.
