13-1 Price help please
I have been offered a 3” 13-1 RB. Unfortunately, I cannot find enough pricing data for me to arrive at what would be a fair price.
I have not seen the gun yet. There is no box, paperwork or other goodies. Assume the condition is 95%. I wont buy it unless it is that or better quality.
Anyone have an idea what market would be on one of these?
Thanks for the input

That's a very desirable piece, and seems to be getting more desirable each day. Prices tend to be all over the place on something like what you describe, but I think a range of $350.00 - $600.00 in the condition you describe would be fair. You might have to bump the price by $100.00 or so if you really want it. I've got a Model 13-3 in excellent condition that's a 3.0 inch barrel, round butt, no box or papers, and it would take at least $800.00 to even get me to think about selling it. Yeah, it's not for sale.
Good luck,
Dave

Blued gun, and I understand the grips are not stock, but they think they have the factory grips if they can locate them.

Very nice gun, a real favorite. OK, blue and no factory grips, right?
When you say offered, I take that as a private sale? $500 would be about market down here in FL. And if you want it. No money left for a re-sale.
Good luck.

$350 to $450 for a fair priced gun without grips, box and shooter grade condition. Check timing and endshake...

I see 4" 13's selling for $500 so I would guess at least $600 for a 3". If you get it for less and the mechanics check out, go for it, you won't be disappointed. Good luck.

Eewwwww boy, this may go sideways. Just talked with the seller. We are going to meet tomorrow morning. He now says gun is a 13-2, not a 13-1, but that it is still a P&R gun and it is still 3” and RB.
I am not familiar enough with these to know what variant is not P&R.
Anyone out there know? And does the -2 vs. -1 change values?

I'd love to get my hands on a 95% 3" Model 13. Probably wouldn't think twice if I had to go $500-600. My Model 65 3" pair need a blue brother or two

True Confessions! I just bought one last week. And I know (or at least I thought I knew) that I overpaid. But I didn't care. It is a 4 inch, 13-1, square butt. It is the best "used" gun I've ever bought. It is NIB or at least ANIB, 100% finish, matching stocks, perfect box with all papers, tools and S&W wax wrapping paper. It is the only "used" revolver I've ever bought that had zero turn line, not even a hint. I see 13s from time to time but there has always been some kind of issue with them, but not this one. The LGS's hang tag price was $799. I got it for $725 and came home happy! I look forward to sharing some pics with you soon.

Well, you'll know soon enough when you see it, won't you? Whether or not it's "P&R" will be readily apparent. And what's he asking? Any estimate of value is based on condition and appearance, and without photos it's darn near impossible to say what it's worth.
I don't mean to sound critical, but there are darn few of these guns available. IMHO if you want one, get it as long as it's mechanically OK. It's not like you can pass on it and find another the next day. The 3" guns are in demand, so if nothing else, if you can get it for a good price, you ought to get it so you can turn around and sell it at a profit. Good luck.

13-2 will be P&R, 13-3 won't...I don't have my SCSW with me at the moment, but I'm thinking that 3" 13s start with -2s?
But now, after checking the 4th. edition, there is no notation of 3" 13s starting at a particular "-"... But in my experience, I've never seen a 3" -1 Model 13. Anyone, anyone?

I've bought two 3" Model 13 with factory wood in the last 4-5 years. Both in 95% + condition. Paid about $745 from a shop and $600 cash for the second in a private sale. No boxes or docs. I've also spent a lot of time watching online and local sales. $600-$750+ would be a fair price in Charlotte, NC, with no box. You can find them for less with substantial effort...but you have to find somebody who does not know what they are selling. In my opinion, $600 for a nicely blued 3" Model 13 is a steal. That would be the low end around here. Sounds like a better buyer's market elsewhere.

I bought a 3" M65 last weekend for $550. No box or anything else. It looks unfired and has a very, very slight turn line.

A 13-1 3" is on my wish list.
The SCSW says the 13-1 was introduced in 1974 and was replaced by the 13-2 in 1977. It also says there's a 50% premium for a 3" barrel.
You decide.

UPDATE
Went to see the gun this morning. Was elated when it came out of the gun rug. It looked like it was going to be a 98%+ gun, no holster wear, barely visible cylinder ring.
Unfortunately, closer inspection showed 90% of the finish had suffered surface rust as it was covered with some very minor pitting.
Would have made a great shooter, but the seller would not move off the $600 price tag.
Came with a very nice set of Herrett grips and a set of brand new Crimson Trace. These added considerably to the value equation, just was not what I was looking for.
On to the next gun
