Question Issues with Tyler T Grips

I ordered a set of Tyler T-grips from their website about about mid January for a Ruger Security Six and... nothing. No responses from emails, text or phone calls. They did cash my check in late January though Anyone else here have good or bad experience with them?

They are notorious for not getting back to anyone, but form what I have heard, people always end up with what they ordered.

You will just have to hang tight.

I ordered the beginning of February and haven't heard anything yet either. I just figure they'll show up eventually. Did you order the polished ones?

I also ordered a set for my own security six. I believe I received them 3 weeks to the day that I dropped the payment in the mail (received them about 2.5 weeks ago). I also heard that they can sometimes be on the slow side, but you'll get them.

I hope they show, in this day and age 60 days and absolutely no communication? Guess how much of my business they will receive in the future

This is the way they are. Even when Melvin was still running it they were slow. They seem to periodically get behind and then get caught up, rinse, repeat.

You have to live with it, or live without T-Grips. It's not like there's another source. Unless you want to buy them used off eBay, and usually you end up paying more.

They've always come through...eventually.

They're slow, and they never really entered the 21st century, much less the 20th. The patriarch passed away a while back and slowed them down even more. They're keeping up as well as they can. Your best bet is to find them at gun shows or on the Forum classifieds . . .

But there is. This is why I quit dealing with them. I use BK adapters now. I can order them online, pay for them online, and get them in about two days. About the same price too.

They aren't available in polished aluminum or brass however.

Actually, today's Tyler Manufacturing is not related in any personal way to the creator Melvin Tyler. He and/or his family (I'm not sure exactly when he passed) sold the business sometime in the 1980s.

I thought it was a son-in-law or something that picked it up after he passed, but it was a long time ago and I might be pulling a Hillary and mis-remembering the details.

I used a slightly modified BK Grip Adapter (Wrangler5 forum member makes them) on my Ruger Security-Six and it worked great. All I had to do was slightly grind the inside of the adapter to fit the Ruger frame closely.

I'm of the opinion it's a one guy garage shop, who operates after working his regular job. Couple that with the pedestrian, slow pace of life in Oklahoma and it sometimes takes months to get what you want. I'm in the exact same boat as you, waiting on one for a Speed Six. My sister lives 10 miles or so down the road from him. I've tried several times when I'm back there to go by the shop, but the owner Brian has been non responsive to my requests.

A member of the forum here makes them. You can do a search for "BK Grips" here for information and you'll find quite a bit of discussion.

Or just do a search on your google machine.

Did you know that Bianchi, or maybe it was Pachmayr, I forget which, no, wait, who said "mis-remember"? made them for awhile, in a polymer? I have a few.

Since all T-grips are aluminum I have bought black ones , when I needed polished silver. I just use a wire wheel to take the black off and then Mothers Mag Polish and it 10-15 minutes I have a silver polished grip for Stainless Steel or Nickel.

I have set reminders on eBay for a number of collectible S&W bits including T-grips. I've managed to come away with a couple good ones so far. They often have new ones on there as well.

I recently got one off of Guns America as well. No idea about the brand new ones. I haven't found the difference in price to be all that much. Unlike stuff like stocks/grips, most people won't pay a huge premium for older ones.

A lot of these small enterprises don't have the resources to be answering e-mails / phone calls / etc.

I plan to order a couple of T-Grips from Tyler and just forget about it. When they arrive, it will be a nice surprise.

I ordered mine about a month ago (N Frame, gloss black) and it showed up in about a week. I wasn't thrilled about the finish, though. It appeared powder coated and had a chip in it...oh well. Maybe a BK is in my future, but I don't think they had polished black as an option.

I've ordered from them 3 times in the past few years. The first time it took 3 months, the other times only 1 week. They have a good product and I can wait.

In this day and age there is no excuse to do business this way, regardless of how small you are. As much I like to support the little guy, its hard to support business like that. In my opinion Customer service is the most important thing for any business.

You'll get them. As to your future business..guess how much they care? Been around a long time doing business just like this the whole time. I have hit them just right and gotten stuff in 10 days. Longest wait for me has been about 2 months. You'll be glad you got them when they are in your hand.

Every time I check for vintage ones on ebay, Gunbroker, etc., there are always several of the new-in-plastic-wrap Tyler-branded ones on offer at most venues, in black, matte and shiny, as well as silver.

The going rate appears to be $36, so with shipping it should cost you about ten bucks more than Tyler's prices on their website.

Since I'm not interested, I don't pay attention to the model, but if you're worried about time or reliability when ordering from the company directly, check those sites.

From time to time there are similar threads about Ford's Refinishing: they cash your check, they won't answer the phone, they don't read my e-mails, where's my gun, blah, blah, blah...

What part of "My Way or the Highway" can't you guys understand?

Well, hopefully this thread will show in google search and help someone in the future in deciding on dealing with this company. I just ordered from BK so my issue is solved, if the Tyler ever shows to an auction site it will go

Hold onto to it.

It's as good an excuse as any to buy another gun.

You must not have been around a few years ago when some kind of brief bizarre panic buying spree had T-grips regularly selling for upwards of $100 and a record eBay sale garnering $255 for a single vintage T-grip:

The K frame BK adapter is the one one to use for a Ruger Security-Six, Service-Six or Speed-Six square butt. I've attached a photo of the BK on my Security-Six which I sold to a forum member a couple years ago.

Another customer has found that the K frame BK adapter works well on a Ruger Redhawk. Here is a picture he provided.

Did they give you a delivery date ?I've had grips come a month after I order them, that's why I asked .

I ordered several from them, in one order, just a few months ago. I received them all, in just a week or so.

I did call them, I think I remember they have certain hours listed that they will answer the phone.

It is a small shop, in a small town. All I can say is, if you don't like the way they do business, then don't engage with them. They will either change, or they will wave bye-bye on the driveway.

However, life here in Okie-land is not exactly like Hooterville.
We do have most of the modern conveniences. We just use them more slower (yes, more slower) than other places.

I live in South Fla, so believe me I get "Island time"
I was stationed in OK, so I ain't buying the "were just sleepy country folk" its been over two months! They cashed my check quick enough, at this point I would take a refund but they just simply do not respond to any known form of communication. BUYER BEWARE

Why anyone would keep dealing with them is beyond me. As long as they have your money, why should they be in any hurry? Personally, I think the product is worthless, and detracts from the beauty of the revolver. Eventually, they will take your money and disappear.

Like a couple other posters, I was under the impression that family was in some way still involved (around here, we would call them "dog kin . . . "). If not, my bad . . .

My state of "informed-ness" isn't definite either, but a while ago I spent some time digging around on the internet trying to find the answers. Lots of indefinite stuff floating around, something about maybe a son-in-law, but the majority view than emerged was "new business with the old trademarks". Nothing to take to court though.

I'll be happy to be corrected if someone actually KNOWS.

Maybe one should try calling this guy Brian that keeps getting mentioned and just ask, but he doesn't seem to answer his phone ...

Default Issues with Tyler T Grips

I've had my experience with them. Placed an order for a polished aluminum T Grip for a S&W round butt K frame. Took eight months before I finally received it. Product fit was "OK", polish was excellent. I was able to fit it properly with careful use of a wooden dowel rod wrapped in crocus cloth. Never again will I deal with this company direct. I'll make my purchases off of the secondary market, even if I have to pay more to get it in a timely manner.
Hope this information helps.
Regards,
Gary

This thread has me rethinking ordering Tyler's T-Grips. I might try the BKs...
