Just received a s&w revolver from a friend, would like to know the model and year, and approximate value

Provide the serial number from the bottom of the grip frame, finish type, barrel length and and pictures if you can. Then you will get some helpful feedback.

From the info provided so far, all we can tell you is it is probably a Smith & Wesson revolver...

Welcome to the forum.

What is the caliber and do you have any photos? We will definitely be able to answer your questions but you need to supply a little more information. Sometimes folks think they have a S&W because the caliber is marked .38 S&W special. That caliber was used by other manufacturers so without more details we can't even guarantee that you actually have a S&W.
