Default Help me ID this 38?

I recently inherited what I think is a model 38 air weight, maybe a bodygaurd. It's a five shot .38 double action revolver.

The butt has a J239xxx serial number.
The yoke has 7X89G (or maybe 6) and "D18" or "018"

Can anyone help me ID this gun and its age?

Welcome! This one should be stamped MOD 38 on the frame under where the barrel threads in; every revolver of the era had a number and name, and this one is called a .38 Bodyguard Airweight as you suspected. The other stamped numbers are factory internal codes. It likely dates to 1974. Hope this is helpful.

Welcome to the forum.

murphydog or his owner nailed it. That's a nice looking shinny Model 12. Did you inherit it as well?
