Default Model 13 Love

Where's the love for the model 13? There seems to be a lot of love for the model 65, 66 and 19, but watching auctions on model 13s, they just don't hit near the same price.

I wouldn't say that out loud for fear of driving up prices if I hadn't of just bought one for $400 + 50 in shipping/transfer fees. Looks like it has honest wear, but won't know for sure until I have it in my loving hands.

Nice 13! There is a lot of love for them around, you just have to look a little harder. I really like my M13-3!

The 3" models are going for top dollar, in every model. I had a 3" m65 and sold it right before one of the spikes in prices a few years ago. If I had waited five days, I could have gotten $750 instead of $450. Crazy timing.

I found my 3" M13 when I wasn't really looking, on GunBroker last Fall and won it for $475. I have had a 3" M64 and a 3" 686 CS 1 for about 10-15 years, they are a nice barrel length. But nothing wrong with a 4" M13, they are a good shooting revolver!

Yep, I kinda like my Model 65-5 LS 3" also, but I need her brother, in a Model 13!

You should love shooting it! I myself prefer a 13 to a 65. Bought my 13-2 a couple of years ago for $475 OTD at the gun show. It was fired very little. Enjoy your 13! Bob

I too am quite fond of a Model 13.

This is the last issued revolver my agency carried prior to the switch to semi autos.

They were ordered with the round butt combat (Banana) grips. Also has the agency seal stamped on the side plate.

I only have one 13-1, it's 4" nickel! Someone put a wide smooth trigger on it! I love that trigger.

This model 13-3 is my favorite revolver to shoot. I like the weight of that bull barrel out front. The trigger is very nice. Made in 1983.

I took this picture against a searing white background so the revolver would look real dark (so all the wear won't show as much).

The 3" Model 13 and it's variants always gets tons of great feedback when mentioned here. There is a cult following on this little unpretentious all business gun. And for more of a holster gun, you have basically a heavy barrel Model 10 in .357 in your 4 incher. They are both great guns, though the shorter one gets more attention. Jodie foster used one in Silence Of The Lambs.

I love these three, all FBI shipped Model 13s
Chuck

Here's one of the factory letters. Each gun was shipped to the FBI on a different date up to 1981

Default Great Gun

We're all entitled to our personal preferences. I believe the credit for the Model 13, 3" rests with the FBI as it was their last revolver before transitioning to autoloaders.

It should be noted that handguns intended for law enforcement are better off with fixed rather than adjustable sights. It's one less thing to break should the gun get dropped or whacked across a numbskull.

I own a Model 65 3" and love it. Everything I ever put through it shoots close enough to point of aim, even to 25 yards, that fine-tuning it for point-of-torso accuracy is not necessary. I've since moved on to 9mm autoloaders for SD but my Model 65 (a stainless Model 13) stays with me until the end.

That is a beautiful revolver!

Since you'll never wear out that Model 65, might I suggest that you and I "come to a deal" on that beautiful 3" M-13!

Since I don't want to hi-jack this excellent thread on one of S&Ws most underrated revolvers, the Model 13 .357 Magnum M&P, please see my separate posting in the 1980-Present Forum regarding this great little revolver which I actually use as a CCW. I hardly know its there

Well, I finally received the real thing and it is exactly as advertised. Beautiful, tight with some holster wear and the grips are scrapped as shown. That 60-70s blue was so beautiful, why would anyone want to plate it or go stainless. I'll clean it up and put a coat of wax on it, and have a set of ahrends grips on the way, unfinished so I can finish them in tung oil-varnish.

Here's mine. A 13-3 that is really enjoyable to shoot. I prefer the looks of the blued 13 more than my stainless 3" Model 65 - but the 65 sees more use.
