Mod 66-1 followed me home, any info appreciated
So my latest LGS find finally followed me home today. Model 66-1, s/n 36K68xx, can anyone identify the age? No box or papers but in nice shape. Definitely a shooter. Some handling marks but no scratches. Was it worth $450?

$450 is a great price for that 66-1.

You've done well to score so much P&R goodness at such a great price. I must be going to the wrong LGS's!

Tell you what... If'n you're feeling a bit guilty about your impulsive buy, I'll bail you out for what you paid.
Just 'cause that's the kinda guy I am.
I saw virtually the same pistol locally for $575 and 12 hours after it was offered for sale, I was third in line. I'd say you are just fine, but if you're having buyers remorse, I'll fix it for you.
BTW ser # 37Kxxxx was 1978 if that helps.

That's a beauty, and worth every penny. I carried a 66 for years, and I preferred the magna style stocks with a Tyler T Grip. I see that yours have the same stocks. I believe that most 66s came with the Target stocks, but I may be mistaken. I would prefer the smaller ones that yours is wearing.
Excellent find, and enjoy!!
Thanks for sharing with us,
Best Regards, Les

66-1
Nice find. You can't go wrong with a stainless Combat Magnum that's pinned and recessed. At that price I bet you still have that huge smile on you face. I'll have to agree with LesB, I also prefer service grips. Makes getting my hand up higher a little easier. Again beautiful hand gun. Congrats

I'm a regular in the store and stop in every week to see what they took in since i was last there. This one hadn't been logged in yet but was already priced at $600. I asked for a pkg deal on this one and a 17-6 (in another thread) and talked them down to where i ended up. I know what they paid for it and since i bought it right away they were happy to make thier profit so quickly. Time is money, they didn't have the gun more than 8 hours before it was sold and it never made it into the case. They sometimes call me when something interesting comes in to check if im interested.

Are classic, deseriable guns typically that 'cheap' in New Jersey? $650 - $700 in my area.

That WAS a great deal in today's market. My 66-1 came with those ugly Pachmayr's on it, as a police trade in, but that was way back in the mid 1990's, when they were $200 everywhere. I wish I had bought a dozen or more. Unfortunately I only bought two, and one of them left with the ex-wife 15-20 years ago. I'm taking mine to my grave!
Congratulations!

Not usually, though I'm a buyer when I can be. Jersey is about the worst politically for guns, with restrictions that most of America would cringe at.
The only positive I can think might come from that is a lot of widows and surviving children want nothing to do with them, so when dad moves on the gun shops get away with paying peanuts for them. I've had a gun shop offer me $125 for a NOS 15-3, unfired in the box, because it was "old". And they did it with a straight face.
