Default Looking for a nice model 10 pre-82

Hey guys I am looking around for a nice blued pre-lock pinned Model 10 to go with my Model 19. Would prefer a non-police turn in one. Had one years ago and had to sell it. No local shops have any, so looking at gunbroker. I've never used it before, found some really nice looking ones on there. Is gunbroker a good site? A friend told me he got a Smith Model 60 there once and loved it. Thanks for any input.

I’ve bought a number of guns off of Gunbroker. Never had a problem. Just be sure that it’s an established seller with an A+ rating and (for me anyway) at least a few hundred sales and positive feed backs. Also watch for excessive shipping and/or credit card fees.
Oh, and if it’s a private seller, make sure that your receiving FFL will accept a transfer from an individual. Some will not.

Usually with revolvers I like to inspect them in person so a little afraid of buying used online, but there are some decent ones in my range. I like any pre-lock Smith, but partial to the p&r! Never had a blued one before, so excited to get one! Should I for a nice 1980s model or hold out for a p&r?

If it is a .38 Special Model 10, the cylinder will not be recessed whatever year it was made. It shouldn't be too hard to find one that's got a pinned barrel.

Thanks for the comments. I lucked out and found a nice Model 19 from late 70s at Bud's a few months back. Nickeled, love it! I have a couple threads on here about it from awhile back. Always wanted a couple of nice blued ones though. Thanks for clarifying about the recessed cylinders, wasn't sure if all models back in the day had those or not. Question, can blued guns be refinished/reblued? How much does that typically cost, if you have a good shooting gun but needs some cosmetic work, i.e, refinish. Guess a gunsmith would have to do it. How often is it recommended to take a used revolver that you like to shoot in t a gunsmith to have him look it over, same you would for a car? Again, thanks for the comments!

I just got a 10-5 I bought on a Gunbroker. It is in near mint condition, and cost about $350. So yes, GB can be a good place to find what you want. Smith made a zillion Model 10's, so they tend to be very reasonably priced.

As for refinishing, you should not have to worry about that, as you should be able to find Model 10's with excellent bluing.

I assume you're located in KY based on your username?

I just picked up a 10-5 that I don't really need.

I believe that should be a KAzillion-- and a lot of them are on GB.

If you're new to auctions Be Patient-- you'll get exactly what you want, for a good price. And certainly get a pinned one-- why not? There's certainly no scarcity of pinned M10s (mine is a 5" pencil-barrel no dash, bot on GB).

I bought the 10-5 "by accident." I submitted a modest "test bid" and woke up the next morning to find I was the new owner of a nice old revolver.

What is this "need" you speak of?

I live in Ky and have a beautiful 10-5 with original box and papers. Mfg same year as the first manned lunar landing, 1969. Very slight drag line. If it's been fired beyond the factory testing, it's been very little. The blueing on these older ones is amazing. Like hematite. Finish 99%. Had to buy this one as part of a package deal to get the one I wanted. This one is just too pretty for me to shoot. I'd love to rehome it.

More of a lack thereof lol...

Well, I have a 4" 64 that gets used and abused and a 2" 10 (and various J Frames) for carry, so the 4" 10 I bought today doesn't serve me a purpose.

I doubt I'll ever shoot it. I just bought it cause I got it for a good price with the box, tools and paperwork and it's in pristine condition. So I really don't "need" it. However, it is a brother to my carry gun, as they are both 10-5s.

I'd be willing to sell.

Not my intention to step on anybody's offer. franzas, you sound like you got a better deal that I did. lol. I have no tools and would say I paid a fair price in order to get the other at what I considered a fairly good price. Let's face it, these older revolving handfuls of joy aren't reproducing. It's getting harder to find good ones, much less locally. Sometimes you have to get creative to make a deal.

Hell no, man. You ain't steppin' om my offer by any means. I , like you, came into a package deal which includes a 10 that is too nice to shoot; that I have no need for. I don't have to sell it, but I would if the price is right.

Since you're in KY and the OP is in KY, I hope he does business with you if you decide to sell.
