Default How Old Is My S&W Model 60 .38SPL ?

I have A S&W Mod 60, .38 Special, 2 inch barrel, serial number is R52633. This was passed down with out any history, box or paper work.
Any Information is greatly appreciated! Thank you.

It is likely from late 1970 to early 1971. Hope this is helpful.

Those M60s were shipped and sold very near their production. Everybody alive wanted one and they didn't last more than a day or two once they got to the end dealer. It was one of the few guns that followed the pattern we all think every model should. Once Dirty Harry hit the screens, the M29 ws also a quick mover.

My observation was many of these guns were acquired by police for use off duty, or by detective types for on duty use. Those can often be identifies by a wear pattern along the front of the barrel or sides of the cylinder.
