Default New to me Model 57

I recently acquired a little used, but carried and handled model 57. It's a 3 screw with counterbored cylinders, and pinned barrel.
The 41 magnum has always intrigued me, so when the price for this went under $500 I jumped. The markings on the crane say model 57-0 , s/n S318XXX. Seems like it could be a fairly early one?

Very nice, gunman5646.

I would love to find a 4" Model 57 in great condition for an affordable price. The only one I own has the 6" barrel. I like it well enough, but I'd like to add a 4" example to my accumulation. I just never see them for sale locally. In fact, .41 Magnums rarely show up for sale around here at all, whether it be Model 57 or Model 58 examples. The .44 Magnums are everywhere . . .

Same here. I've been looking for a shooter grade, no luck so far.

I don't think you will be sorry that you got into the .41 Mag. ownership group. I have a 57, with a ser. # really close to yours. Mine is Ser.#S31543x. It was mfg. in 1965. I have two others, a 1964 6", Ser. #S23932x, and a 1976 8 3/8" Ser.#N38969x, making it a complete set of standard barrel lengths.
It has been a long time since I'v seen one sold at under $500. So, I think that you got yours at a very reasonable price. here are pictures of mine.

First one? Make room for more.

I shot my new to me s&w m58/4" barrel and found out the 41 magnum round is pretty awesome. Its a good magnum round that deserves its spot between the 357 mag and 44 mag round. I can't see any magnum lover not having a 41 mag. The 44 mag was on top of the heap for eons but we have to own all three the 357, the 41 and the 44 mag. They do go well together. I been a 44 mag guy for four decades.

Congrats and welcome to the forum. Nice find. I really like those grips also. I have never shot a 41 Magnum but always wanted to.

Default Model 57

Ahhhhhh, a 4 inch I'm in heat. I've got a Blued and a Nickeled 6 inch no dash, but I would love to own a 4 inch. My best to you sir. Hand loading is the only way to go, load as soft as you want or as hot as you can handle the N frame can take it. Beautiful handgun

A six inch nickle M57 got my first whitetail. Good memory! If I had any sense, this would have been my go to medium game gun. Too many choices but none better.
